    Can someone clarify for me whether or not this is a move to prevent future things such as what happened to Fiorentina and reduce all the debt many teams have?

    Actually, the answer to that question is no.

    It's a bit of a red herring, all this. None of the G-14 have an earnings/salary ratio of over 70%. That is the more or less exclusive preserve of teams outside of that fabled little elite.

    One could be cynical and surmise that the group is implementing financial measures that look good to the outside world in a financially insecure period of the game's history, in the full knowledge that the practical impact of such measures on their ability to continue as they are is zero ...
