I've never seen such an unbalanced team in my life.
I'm soory real fans but this team will not win the CL this year.
    How could you ?
The defence is so poor, so naïve at times it makes me mad.
It makes me mad to see such incredible offensive talents supported by such mediocre ( in comparison ) defensive midfielders and and defense.

If only they had kept Makelele and got their hands on 2 strong, already confirmed defensive players, man this team would have been unstoppable.

What we see today is a team that struggle to play against aggressive, well organised teams and who can't get the ball back when the opposition is really motivated ( sorry, Becks or Guti are no Makelele ).
Real were lucky not to concede more goals, and go home with a draw.

Come Milan, or Juve or teams that know how to defend and attack aggressivly as a group and do not make "rookie" mistakes, Madrid is going to suffer, just like last year.

    What a waste.

Normally I would agree with you about Juventus and Milan but neither of those teams looked worth a darn in this round of the CL either. Juventus is having defensive problems against quality sides and is going through a serious scoring drought. The CL is looking wide open at this point. Of course either of those teams or another big gun could rediscover their form at any time.

I understand your point about Real Madrid, it is strange to see ownership (with money) going for an unbalanced team. Defenders are usually cheaper than offensive players. Real could afford to bring in a couple of quality defenders, but seem philosophically opposed to the idea.

Of course personally I hope they don't buy any new star defenders as they would be unbelievable with a defense of the quality of their offense. :)

Well, i'm no Real fan, just as you it seems, but wouldn't you like to see a team that could produce such great football that you would just be mesmerized by it, yearning for more, everytime they play.
I felt like that last year when they played Man U.

It's probably the only chance to see so many amazing talents play together, there's only so few ingredients missing....
For the love of football, i whish i could see a real team who's as strong at the back as they are in front.

On what are you basing that Madrid don't have a good enough defense?

That they're 1st in the league?
That they're in the final of la Copa del rey?
That they had a better away result in the CL than Manchester or Juve or AC Milan, against arguably better opposition?

I don't hear anything about Chelsea having a bad defense even though their game was pretty much the same as Madrid in Germany, only our Germans didn't give away an own goal and had a lot better offensive plays...and that even though they have such a 'great' ballgetter in Makelele. Imagine that.

By the way, you're almost always going to be right when there are still 16 teams left, and you only say one of them won't win the Cup. Why don't you tell us who is going to win?

You forget somethnik, Real realy has no defense, they just have the best goalkepper in the world right now. Without Casillas Real wouldnt be first in La Liga, wouldnt be in final of Copa del Rey and they would have lost against Bayern by getting two or three goals!!! It is Casillas who is the MAN in Real defense!!!

I really don't see what's the big deal of a 1-1 against Bayern IN Munich !! Thats an excellent result, this is bayern we're talking about, Not Celta or Porto.

Bayern first, and after that, the rest. The next round will likely be easier than this one. This is the year for them to win it. Seriously, it will have been two years since they won it last. It's basic numerology, folks.

Madrid would have scored sooner if Ronaldo wasn't wrongly called offside, we know what happens when Ronnie goes solo towards a goalie.

Well Hell, somebody tell Florentino to get 4 more attacking players to replace the defenders then, seeing as we only need Casillas to do better than we have ever done so far. :D

Ya i saw the game live on tv, they didn't play well so what ?? This is an away game, Bayern is a great team, always a contender for the title. So what really maters was the result. Plus if you also saw the game, you would know it would have been 2-1 if Ronaldo hadn't been wrongly called offside.

I guess you haven't seen much of Bayern this season. Except for maybe mid-November to mid-December, they've played like crap! This will almost certainly be the EASIEST opposition Madrid will see in the CL's knockout rounds this year!

Another person who thinks Bayern is the same Bayern as 2-3 years ago! Porto is having a far superior season than Bayern and they are a tougher opponent. You think Bayern would be undefeated if they played in Portugal?? They lost to Bochum and tied Frankfurt in the run-up to the Madrid match, remember.

What kind of drugs do you use?

Ok, I think that for you the most stronger team is Spartak. And that it is the reason of what Milan only could tie without goals with them. Yeah, but Milan is a very balanced team. Ha, ha, ha, ha......

Oh, yeah!!!! Oporto is the strongest team. I should remember you that we play against them in the previous round. We won them easily in Portugal, and we tied in Bernabeu playing with the subs when we were classified to the next round, but they are the strongest team. That is the Reason of that Mancherser lost with them 2-1. Ha, HA, ha, ha, ha....

Sometimes it's really funny to read some posts.

Oscar, i'm totally agree with you. But you know that to be the first in la liga with a adventage of 5 points, to win the spain supercup, to be in the Spain cup final, to have many chances to pass to the next round in CL, ... , it isn't enough. We are a unbalanced team, .... and the other teams with that "great results and rivals" are best teams. ;)

That game against Bayern wasn't a good game by Real but that is ONE game.

This team is known to throw in crap games ever so often.

On a good day they can practically mesmerize anyone, on a bad day....well....you saw what happens on a bad game.

This game was alot tougher than people think. The weather was COLD and they are playing away.

So far I have seen worse games from every other team in europe that people consider contenders. Unfortunately Real isn't allowed to have bad games.

I saw the Milan game...oh..I am really scared

I saw Juve lose to Depor and ManU lose to Porto

Real can win the CL bc everyone else is crap. This is anybody's tourney.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

To those of you who keep complaining about the Real Madrid defense:

We won the European Cup with a central defense pairing of Aitor Karanka and Ivan Campo.

    That is all.

You are so right. The problem with the RM defense is not that it is so bad, it compares well to most other defenses the team faces. The defense´s biggest problem is being so overshadowed by the offense.

Since when was the keeper not PART of the defense? The team has a good defense, not great. They will ALWAYS be open to a counter attack because of how up front R.Carlos and Salgado. When they stay back, it takes a part of the offensive machine away and strengthens the defense more. It's called offensive and defensive football. Italians play defensive ball and Real Madrid plays offensive.

totally have to agree. a lot of people dont realize that even if we had a central defense of Nesta and Samuel, we would be prone to allow more goals solely on the fact that there only are TWO defenders. the other two, Salgado and Roberto Carlos, rarely play in defense and mostly when they do, they are always running back from an attacking position in order to defend. Helguera and Bravo, for being the only two back there, have not been doing that bad of a job this year, as a matter of fact i think that they have done pretty well givent he circumstances.

It is not the defense.... RM lacks a good defensive midfielder. Against BM, the RM defense actually gave the Germans only one decent chance -- a play cannot save by Casillas -- to score.
