Pretty cool replica of the old Molineux. This would be more or less how the ground looked when we faced them in the Uefa Cup final in 1972:
We’re down to playing U21 players in the Champions League, have forwards getting outscored by center backs and still apparently playing Levy rules to sign an old left-back, meanwhile Fulham signs Oscar Bobb. It wasn’t Levy, it ain’t Frank, it ain’t the players, it’s the club. Top to bottom. Replacing any one piece resolves nothing; everything and everyone regresses to the mean.
The old LB being Robertson? I mean, we complain about the club signing unproven youngsters and now also complain when we go in for proven winners and wise heads?
it wasn’t so much he was old, rather it’s not our most glaring need right now – well up until Davies and Porro went out injured.
Honorable mention to Pafos, missing out on a playoff place only by goal difference despite thrashing Slavia 4-1. Golara can be proud.
Not a bad showing at all. That said, their other win came v Villarreal, who have been utterly pants in this comp. A single draw v Juventus being the only point they earned throughout the group stage. Hell, we beat 'em. In fact, looking at the table, three of our wins came against the bottom four in the table ... ... who had a total of one win among them. Toss in the Copenhagen game and it's four wins v the bottom six. Oh well ... much as I prefer the glamor ties, if last year taught us anything, it's that the road to glory is paved with easy fixtures.
It's been a decent season for Cypriot football in Europe - in the Conference League, AEK Larnaca are into the last 16, and Omonia Nicosia have qualified for the playoff round.
Dyche out at Forest. Funny coincidence, the two managers who followed Big Ange get sacked within 24 hours. Wonder if Forest’s fourth manager of the season makes it to the end.
There's a regular poster on the Sheffield Wednesday message board that I keep an eye on who, I'm fairly certain, has made his career in the world of professional football, and apparently has a broad understanding of the nuts and bolts of club football in England, from youth levels to board rooms and most of what's between. He is regularly deferred to by loads of folks who appear to be very knowledgeable themselves. Anyway, he's gone into a bit of detail about Forest's finances and just how deep in the shit they would be should Forest go down. I won't bore folks with the details, but it's fair to say that among the myriad ingredients gone into Marinakis's concoction of managerial motivations, desperation comprises a fair portion. They cannot afford the drop.
That lot drop 2 more points at Brentford. They couldn't bottle it again, could they? Answer to that rhetorical question: their next 2 are Wolves and Tottenham away.
Harry scored his 500th career goal today. You know maybe Pep was right, maybe we were the Harry Kane team. Perpetual almost was-es when he was here, a steady, steep decline since he left with the aberration of a European Cup.
I remember Forest winning 2 European cups under Brian Clough's tutelage. Shame the club's gone this way.
Maybe the years of conditioning as I strangely feel the same. Sheringham, Berbatov, Carrick and the admittedly tenuous links with Beckham and Keane.
Things are getting tight up north. Celtic have won 3-2 at Kilmarnock on a 97th minute winner, having been down 2-0. And Rangers, having been down a goal twice, have gone up 3-2 late in the game with Hearts at Ibrox. If that result stands, all three will be right in it. -- and there's Rangers' 4th, so that's that. Hearts - 27/57 (played/points) Rangers - 27/55 Celtic - 26/54
If Hearts fall out of it, sure. But those were two cracking games today - even if I didn't like the results - and the table right now is miles more interesting than it's been since ... I dunno ... when Aberdeen was good?
