They're about to be crowned champions of Europe, and we're doing just as well! And people are saying we're having a bad season. Pffft!
I don't 'have a Spanish team' (or anywhere else [except perhaps Germany]); but if I did, it'd be Betis. It's based on nothing but a long evening in Seville 20-some years back (Betis 2-1 Barca) with loads of Beticos and having a very good time. And their badge - I do love their logo. But the point is this: we all want Betis to win the Conference final. Obviously. But I'll be wishing it almost as much for who'd win as for who'd lose. ... actually, that's nonsense. It's not even close. But I do like Betis.
The similarities between Ange and Greg make my weekends unpleasant. The Galaxy have last year’s Championship to soften the blow, but yesterday marked - the worst defeat in Galaxy history - most goals conceded in Galaxy history - tied for the worst defeat in league history - worst start to a defending champion’s league campaign - worst start to a league campaign - last week LA lost 1-0 to a team that didn’t take a single shot – not a shot on goal, literally they didn’t take a shot
These coincidences are getting silly. Now both finalists lose at home by the same score to London clubs.
While Spurs were providing roadkill to Palace, I enjoyed a thriller of a Superclasico as Barca came from 2 down to beat Real 4-3 and all but wrap up La Liga.
Last PL game at Goodison this weekend, but the club have announced that their women's team will move in starting next season. Nice to see the old lady of English football won't get demolished.
I absolutely love that, though I find it shocking. Maintaining a structure like Goodison is no small expense, and you'd think the value of the real estate would dwarf whatever revenues the ladies will generate (no disrespect intended), which you'd think would factor into the financing of the new stadium. Still, Everton's bean counters will surely have done their analysis and concluded that it makes sense. Fair play to them. It's a brilliant old ground.
More details in the article - they won't use full capacity, but the new US owners are big on women's soccer, having had success with AS Roma in Italy. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...s-with-it-set-to-become-home-of-everton-women
What a finish at the Stadium of Light! Dan Ballard heads in off the bar from a corner in the 122nd minute to send Sunderland through to the Championship playoff final at Wembley against Sheffield United. Sunderland 1, Coventry 1, AET. Sunderland win 3-2 on aggregate.
Orient and Charlton have beaten Stockport and Wycombe, respectively, to reach the League1 playoff final. I like both, and will be pleased to see either in the second tier. Of the two, I'd probably prefer Charlton. They've had a rough 10 years or so. And the Valley is brilliant. Up the addicks.
Midfielder Jamie Donley and goalkeeper Josh Keeley are enjoying an excellent loan spell for the O's. The Orient were floundering in December miles off the promotion places, until their manager, Richie Wellens, put Donley in the #10 position and the rest, as they say, is history. Vegemite had him in the pre-season and played him at left back. 'Nuff said. Not sure why we are wasting money and squad space on unproductive players like Odobert, Tel, Werner, Kinsky, and Gray, when our youth teams are producing players like Donley, Moore, Devine, Lankshear, Austin, Gunter, and Keeley. Tottenham Hotspur, where young players go to die.
