To be fair, if you're desperate to get to a club where you'll win something, Chelsea won't be the brightest blip on your radar screen.
There's a warped logic by which I want Liverpool to win the Prem. Basically, in wishing that City's hegemony would be thwarted, only Arsenal and Liverpool remain as viable options, and the former is stomach-turning. ... on second thought, I guess I can live with four straight for City, if I must.
Poch comes up short after reaching another final with a clearly inferior team. Or blows it. Whatever.
Everton have had their points deduction reduced from 10 to 6 points, moving them back up to 15th and 5 points clear of the relegation zone.
I think that final yesterday was a brilliant illustration of the importance of developing a winning culture. Pochettino, as he did with us, downplayed the importance of winning the cup in his pre-match comments, while Klopp had no hesitation in playing his youth players, he was going to go down swinging, regardless of the result.
Yup. I've been saying that on here for yonks. It's the one thing for which I heavily criticized Harry and Poch (both of whom I loved), and for which I've always praised (even more astounding, as I've always loathed him) Mourinho, going all the way back to his Chelsea days. Mourinho felt every trophy was there to be won, and never felt himself or his club too big for any of them. And he won a fooking shedload. I know you've got to prioritize matches in terms of personnel, but that should never be used as an excuse to make losing ok. Saying "we've got our eyes on bigger things" is the lamest shit in the world - even if you do.
And Ange has been pretty clear winning trophies and/or the league is his goal. He’s failed so far of course, but anyone who expected much this season. So … Poch’s emphasis on style + Mourinho’s “every trophy matters” … maybe? Guess we’ll see what happens next season.
Yeah, I was quite pleased with Postecoglu's comments regarding the League Cup, when we went out (on penalties) v Fulham. "I just want to win" or words to that effect. He'd changed the team a bit, for sure, but he wasn't whining about it, and he wasn't saying it didn't really matter. I can't remember his comments when Citeh knocked us out of the FA Cup, to be fair. Where we'll really see is if we end up in the Europa League (a strong possibility), and whether or not we make a proper fist of it.
Same old lucky Chelsea late late show. I've lost count of how many matches they've won with seconds to go.
Speaking of late shows, Man U scraped by Forest on a late Casemiro winner and will now face Liverpool in the quarters. 6th round draw: Wolves v Coventry Man U v Liverpool Under 12s Chelsea v Leicester City Manchester City v Newcastle If Man City go through, our fixture against them in April would have to be rearranged as it falls on FA Cup semifinal weekend.
Aston Villa next week = a huge match. Now, they travel to Ajax on Thursday and then we meet them on Sunday giving them only 2 days to prepare whereas we have a week. Hopefully that's to our advantage.
If we lose, we'll get pelters for having had a whole week to prepare and if they lose, they'll get pelters for being in Europe and the Thursday-Sunday stuff.
