I'd completely forgotten that Grobbelaar played for Soton. Lovely to see him punished over and over like that. The most punchable face in the history of football.
He could be a prick, but I actually liked him. But, in truth, one of my first full-match viewings of an EPL/D1/FA Cup was the 1989 FA Cup final between Liverpool and Everton. What a fantastic match, and really liked Liverpool that match (but didn't support as their fans left me with a sour taste from as far back as Haysel). So I have a soft sport for anybody from that Liverpool team.
Credit to Bournemouth, after their 9-0 pasting at Liverpool, they draw away to Wolves and come from 2-0 down at HT to beat Forest away 3-2. Chelsea saved by a scandalous VAR decision that chalked off a late West Ham equalizer.
And then there were two - City & Spurs the remaining unbeaten teams in the league. Will make next weekend even more interesting.
They were actually on top at 1-1 but Eriksen and Fernandes were able to exploit their high line on the counter for the second and third goals.
Brighton 5-2 Leicester: we were strongly linked with Brendan Rodgers last season, thank goodness that never came to pass.
Truthfully, I don't think anybody will do a repeat of that team. But their addition of Jesus really seems to have made a difference.
I tuned in about two minutes before United scored their second, so I have no idea how either side looked prior. But I do know that ever since he signed with them, I've fully expected to, at some point, look at Eriksen doing the kinds of things that I wish he was doing for us (and that no one currently is) and sigh. And that did happen.
United were the better team in the first half, but Arsenal were dominant for the first 15 minutes of the second half and should have scored more than their equalizer. Eriksen and Fernandes look to have quickly formed an understanding and their passing was sublime (although helped by Arsenal's chronic naiveté in defense)
A good coach, but a lousy politician, and in this business, like many others, you also have to know how to manage up.
Can’t fault Potter for taking the leap, but also can’t help but think it’s a massive gamble. Chelsea is a meat grinder and if you don’t have prior success at a big club it’s sort of the death knell for your career. Vialli, DiMatteo Villas Boas all basically went nowhere after Chelsea. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if we see Pulisic start this weekend.
