With all due respect, USA is light years ahead of Canada.

What I remember about the 2000 tourney was that neither the USA nor Mexico got past the quarters, which spoiled the organizers' plans, who had scheduled the semis and final at the LA Coliseum, thinking they would have 90,000 crowds with USA and Mexico involved.

But Canada stunned Mexico in the quarters with Steve Nash's brother Martin setting up the winning goal. Even the Canadian commentators didn't seem to believe what they had seen.

The adjectives, man, look at the adjectives. Scintillating ... bitterest ... mighty ... you might want to have your sarcasm detector checked. ;)

We should stroll this group. And we will win it. But the games may be more competitive than they should be - Haiti was - because we're shit.

I was chatting about why US Gold Cup wins or losses don’t have the same impact as England wins/losses and it really came down to the stakes. 99% of the time the Gold Cup is going to be won by either Mexico or the USMNT.

Yes, I was surprised to learn that Canada is the only team outside of those 2 to win it (1985, 2000). I am always surprised to learn that Canada has won anything in soccer.

Canadians did a job in the end, though it might have been a different game had the Haitians not been so wasteful with their numerous first half chances. US dominated, as one would hope v Martinique. Lots of enjoyable footy tonight in what is a pretty nice ground.

$11 for a can of Budweiser, though? F*ck off.

Come what may, Arsenal losing 2-0 to Brentford on the opening match of the season is a delight.

They're shite. It's a club in utter disarray, and long may it continue. Arteta's in over his head. He'll be gone by November.

By the way, I hate that Griffin Park is gone, but I'm gonna get to their new one. It looks like one of the best new grounds in England.

Erik Lamela made his debut for Sevilla today, coming on at the start of the second half.

... and scored a brace. Nice one, Coco.

I'll miss his shithousery more than anything tbh. Maybe Dele will take on that mantle (as well as becoming good again)

The Library looks half empty. It is raining and the Goons are down 2-0 at the half.

I hate how good Chelsea appear they might be this year; but I'm rather enjoying their success today.

Precisely how I feel. I like being 6 points up on Arsenal after the first 2 matches.

I'll worry about Chelsea when we play them. To worry about them now is interest paid on a loan we've not yet taken.

My wife came in and saw me watching the game and said, "I know you hate both teams - which do you hate more?" She's been paying attention.

Amazing turn of events. You've got player that wanted to come to you, but whose club's evaluation of him was higher than that of your club, and you decide to publicly take a shot at him. I only have two possible takes from this:

    a) Pep Guardiola is a monumental tw*t.

    b) Pep fully expected the player to take a bigger role in engineering the move. Spurs fans got tetchy about the Neville interview and the late return to training - and to be fair, those things weren't good - but it could've been much worse if he really wanted out.

note: explanations 'a' and 'b' are not mutually exclusive.

    LOL.

So United get a striker they don’t need and City gets left to scramble. Now just need some club to extort £100+ out of City for someone like Ings.
