It's my first column for the Chicago Fire website. Contrary to what it says on the main page right now, I don't think it's actually going to be weekly. I need to check on that.

And any suggestions for witty column names would be welcome.

Nice piece Coz. Your moving up in the world. I notice that this article is slightly more PC then the ones you write for your site. By that I mean, you are not speculating as broadly as you regularly do. Is this by choice or by direction? I can totally understand why you might need to be a bit more careful what you say on an official team site as many might take everything on chicago-fire.com as gospel.

By choice. My first draft of the column started with a joke about Sarachan's height, but I figured that might not really be the best idea. I would imagine that, as the column gains steam over there, it may get a little more irreverant, especially if my profile increases this season on the broadcasting side.

At the end of the day, it's a different audience than my own personal site, so a different tone is in order. Which is also a way to keep the two differentiated.

Thanks for the feedback, of course.

Great column. It's good to see the opinions of a fan working into the main stream media.

Winner. No questions asked. Actually, I like the Coz & Effect title as well.

You'd intimated somewhere else that another guest columnist was coming to the Fire web site. Strange how you may have gotten wind of that. . .

    Great article. Great journalism.

I had no idea how dire the Fire's situation was. I knew about the DC style bloodletting of high $ players, but no Razov or Selawane to start the season? And even worse, the hopeless Beasley-drifting-to-the-middle desperation of having no replacement for Nowak. It reminds me of Tampa moving Ralston to the middle during their meltdown season.

I feel sorry for Sarachan. I bet he wishes he signed on with the league last year. Still, what ba!!s to take on this kind of martyrdom for the team. I hope the fans understand the situation he's inherited through no fault of his own.

P.S. What's the address of "your site" NotAbbot?

Ok... I thought about this for a couple of days, and I came up with one that I like. Of course, the reference is somewhat obscure, but you should like it too.

Here's the way my thought process works.

    1. You are the drummer and one of the "leaders" in SECTION 8.

    2. SECTION 8 is a psychological release from the armed forces. However, it is also low-cost housing.

    4. There are 11 men on the field (at least to start the match) for a soccer game.

    5. Sometimes related to SECTION 8 is CHAPTER 11 bankruptcy (just ask Peter Francis Geraci).

    6. Chapters are sections in a book. This relates to writing.

    7. Coz is morally bankrupt.

For all of these reasons, I think "Chapter 11" is a great name for the "new" column.

When a new column is posted, you could write, "I've filed for chapter 11" and we'll all know what you're talking about.

I like it, because, in its own maze of tangents, it relates to Section 8 as well.

Your giving Section 8ers way too much credit. You are aware that there are some among us who have trouble with 'fire, fire, fire, fire goooo, fire gooo, fire gooOOoo' aren't you? ;)

Personal bankruptcies are filed under Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. Chapter 11 is for businesses, and I'm not sure I like the implication considering the business involved with the column ;)

Nevertheless, I like the twisted logic that got you to that name.

Well, yeah... get all technical... In that case, doesn't chapter 11 have something to do with restructuring or reorganizing? That would make it even more appropriate considering what the Fire's going through right now... in a non-financial sense.
