I'll be in London the weekend of March 29. Which teams are playing at home and do any of you know the best way to get tix?

    thanks for the info!

I just went to leeds v. man u match in manchester last wednesday. I got my tix at theonlineticketshop.com (or something very close to that). it was expensive, but it was my honeymoon, so I paid without worrying about it. They hand-delivered them to my hotel.

Man U are sold out well in advance (as are most teams), so it's hard to get tickets without going through a broker. A local fan did tell me that I could have bought scalped tickets at not much above the ticket price right around game time, but if you're flying over there, that's quite a risk.

The EPL has an official website (for schedules, etc). I think I went to google.com and searched for Barclaycard English Premier League. Also, be aware of what teams are still in non-league competitions (CL, FA Cup, etc.), as their games might be re-scehduled.

Find out where the locals go before the game and have a few beers. We got to Weatherspoon's near Old Trafford around 5pm (game at 8), and people were already crowded in and singing. It was a great way to learn some of the songs.

Have fun. We even ended up on the big screen at the stadium! I think I spent $500 in their store, too. All in all, it was a very memorable evening.

Your best bet will probably be Wimbledon - Sheffield United, or failing that a trip to Reading - Preston, both 1st Division games (although Sheff Utd have reached the FA Cup semis).

I just realized (after posting above) that you may not want to leave London. In that case, look at Tottenham, Chelsea, Everton (I think), Fulham, and West Ham (?)(I think these are the London teams; check the EPL site and go to the stadium info to be sure). The same website should have tickets. Otherwise, just type in "soccer tickets" on google and look around.

I went to West Ham last year and enjoyed it thoroughly. Great atmosphere.

Also saw a Brentford match (against Huddersfield). Nice little stadium in a cool neighborhood with a pub not far away. If you want to check out lower-division soccer (D2 I think) this is a neat place to go and not far from central London by train.

There are a ridiculous number of teams within striking distance of London and since different leagues play on different days you should be able to see several matches if you want to.

    they're from liverpool

unless, you wanna go to Arsenal or possibly Chelsea, you should just be able to go to the ground several days before kickoff and buy the tickets from their kiosk. i'd avoid brokers and the like, they rip you off...

failing that, try the scalpers (we call them touts) at the ground. granted when they hear your american accent they may try to rip you off but if you hold firm and maintain a price close to the official tix price (it will say on the ticket) they'll have to take it.

    the demand isn't THAT high

    good luck

i recommend reading of course. A little under a half hour train ride from Paddington station in London to Reading main station and you can catch the bus directly to Madejski. The ground is excellent, one of the best outside of the premiership. And Reading's keeper is american marcus hahnemann who is having an excellent season. Plus the football is pretty good as well, Reading are going to be in the premiership next season, I hope.
