Timmy Chandler's moving on up the field this Bundesliga season:- Last four games (350 min.): 9% of touches in attacking penalty area (13 of 144) - First eight games (404 min.): 1.6% of touches in attacking penalty area (4 of 245)— Paul Carr (@PaulCarr) February 7, 2020
Crazy game from Chandler. He worked hard and was way up the field. He certainly didn't play well in all areas. He only made 43 touches. He was 0/4 in accurate crosses and 0/4 in accurate long balls. His passing at 36% was poor. But his defensive numbers were solid (3 tackles, 2 clearances) and his aerial ability has been soaring. Two of his three goals the last two games were very nice headers where he just outworked the defender to the ball. But passing? not good. If he's scoring, he'll help. But can he help a team offensively when he's not scoring? I am not sure when he's playing wing. He could ruin a lot of possessions. One of the worst passing charts I’ve ever seen, but two goals and a big win. #USMNT https://t.co/SlBuxzeACW pic.twitter.com/OUFlCcEnmS— Sean Donahue (@SeanLDonahue) February 7, 2020

Kostic is their best player and certainly deserved MOTM IMO. Timmy has been remarkable since his return and his goals were out of sight... but he didn't play nearly as well outside of said goals during this game. I have watched every minute he has played since his return and that was the worst he played as far as pssing was concerned. Hard to quibble with two goals though. The way he runs around like a crab is so funny to watch... I get real pleasure from watching him play because he doesn't have the look of a fluid footballer but he keeps doing remarkable football things. I found myself just laughing at the TV when he scored that 2nd goal. Just too funny. I am rooting heavily for him after all the injuries he has had to overcome. Really think he deserves another shot on the USMNT. You could do a lot worse off the bench.... Regarding Frankfurt... I don't think they have lost since he has moved to the attacking role. He is in miraculous form right now and the team is feeding off it.
Chandler's overall passing percentage for the season in the Bundesliga this year is 61.8%, which is bottom 10 in the league for field players and the other 9 in that bottom 10 are strikers or attack minded midfielders.— Sean Donahue (@SeanLDonahue) February 7, 2020
Like I said in my earlier post... it was a terrible passing game for him. He hasn't played that many games so that kind of poor showing certainly has an outlier effect on his overall percentage. Not sure why Sean had to point it out like he is separate from the strikers/attack minded midfielders because that is what he has been for most of the season. In short, I don't really think he has been poor at passing other than in this last game. As a matter of fact, I think they actually put him higher up the pitch so that he could provide more crosses into the box. He has done quite well there for most of the year. I guess none of it makes a difference if you keep putting it in the back of the net. Will be fun to see just how long he can keep this up. My guess is that it won't be that long... but I still think he is a net-positive for their team.

So it is Chandler's job to play forward and D? What about the right-back and right-mid? There wasn't even a defender on Sancho when he dribbled in. How can you expect a player to play both positions? I am not some huge Chandler fan. I think he would be a valuable sub for the current USMNT but not by the time the WC comes around. Just don't think he was the main reason those goals were scored.
