Just two weeks from now, I'll be starting off on a 10-day film festival, with some SERIOUSLY good-looking movies in he lineup... I can get a limitless pass for €225 or a 20 movie pass for 110, which I think I will get since I'm tied up until 3.30 on Monday, 12.30 on Tuesday & Wednesday, 6.30 on Thursday and 4.30 on Friday with school. That said, the Thursday lineup looks so promising that I might just call it a day at lunch... here's the full list of the movies, oh and it's the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, for the record... Thursday Timbuktu Friday Vacas Blind Shaft The Red Squirrel Edi Osama The Cat’s Meow My House in Umbria On the Road Monster (has Beecher) The Barbarian Invasions Saturday 21 Grams It’s All About Love Valentin The Other Side of the Bed One Last Chance Love Me if You Dare Sophiatown Pieces of April Pas Sur La Bouche The Last Kiss Mambo Italiano Sunday Wonderland The Best or Youth Forest The Cooler I’m Not Scared The Clay Bird Evil Grand Theft Parsons (got Johhny Knoxville) Arimpara Distant Leo Anything Else Monday Close Your Eyes Aileeen: Life & Death of a Serial Killer My Brother In Law The Lease The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone House of Sand & Fog El Bonarense The Station Agent Spare Parts Bon Voyage Tuesday Tierra Under The Stars The Python Good Morning Night National Film School Tribute The Story of the Weeping Camel The Dreamers The Architect The Company Wednesday Somnambuul Lovers of the Arctic Circle The Honeymooners Errance The Fog Of War The Missing At Five in the Afternoon Rosenstrasse Thursday Sex & Lucia Pupendo Basque Ball Headrush Wondrous Oblivion Blind Flight The Return Mister V Friday Bad Boys Comedian Internal Affairs A Thousand Clouds of Peace Capturing the Friedmans Cowboysd & Angels Japanese story 16 Years of Alcohol Switchblade Romance Saturday Carandiru Twilight Samurai Fear X Northfork The Principles of Lust Vodka Lemon Bloom Shattered Glass Dans Ma Peau Zatoichi Buddy Sunday Battle Royal II: The Requiem The Tulse Luper Suitcases: The Moab Story The Saddest Music in the World Tais-Toi Choses Secrets Greendale Surprise film Tha Halo Effect Some of the movies I have to see there are 21 Grams, Edi, The Barbarian Invasions, the Best of Youth (SIX and half hurs long, fro m1pm to 7.30... if I do go to it, I'll miss every movie listed between it and Grand Theft Parsons, but Distant will still be there to see), the Fog of War & the Return. Still ,there are at least 30-40 movies I'd love ot be able to watch, too... I just hope I can coax a mate or two not spending €60 on a 10 movie pass, or getting a 20 movie pass... wouldn't want more than 2 or 3 of us there, though... bar 2 or 3 of my firends, the rest yap all through movies... REALLY irritating. Still, two days back I didn't even know it was on, now I'm going to get at least a 20 movie pass, even if it means going to it alone in the pissing rain and wind of Dublin city centre, amidst a plethora of strung out heroine addicts... lovely. So, anybody ever been to many festivals? I've been to soem music festivals, but they are obviously far different... what's the atmosphere usually like in movie festivals, and what other movies there would people recommend to see, or even avoid? feedback would be much appreciated, thanks.
Film festivals are a lot of fun, but you need to be armed with a high tolerance for pretense. You'll be forced to suffer listening to every wannabe director and his brother while waiting to get into films. A lot of the crowds as well as the industry people take themselves way too seriously. They forget it is just entertainment. Be prepared to roll your eyes a lot and to ignore them and you'll have a great time. I love film festivals.
