I'm still a little drunk so maybe this is going to sound silly. But I'm amazed at his work ethic. This is a guy who spend every game day selling tickets, working a booth, coordinating, organizing, etc.... I don't see how he can actually enjoy the game day. I've always been appreciative but today something struck me. There was a smoke bomb and most of us saw it, knew it wasn't supposed to be there, but did nothing (I think we secretly enjoy it and therefore don't really do anything about it but that's another story). Here comes Oscar to pick it up and carry it away. It's like he's constantly working. I don't see how any of this is fun for him. We all get to enjoy the experience because of his years of focus and effort. And I'm not sure why this one moment hit me so hard but for whatever reason it had an effect on me. This sentiment is also directed at the elders and long time members who help build up the Barra. I'm only 3 years deep. I'm jealous in some ways because I didn't get to experience the whole thing, but mostly I think about how much focus and effort has been put into everything. Years of dedication and work is what allows the rest of us to have this experience every game. It's pretty amazing. Anyway, enough rambling. I'm drunk and I'll probably feel stupid about this in the morning but I felt like I wanted to post it.
No reason to feel stupid, Oscar is the heart of the Barra. When we met 12 plus years ago I knew he was something special. His tireless work ethic is infectious. We both share a passion for the game and hanging by his side is one of the best decisions I've ever made. We built something great together along with all of our members help. It's something I'm damn proud of...
Props to oscar, don't know how he does it. he's a machine props to solomon for giving gatorade to parking lot ticket guy off 395, classy move.
Silly to think it? - Certainly not! Silly to talk to others about? - Certainly not! Silly to start a thread about on a message board? - Yeah, a little.
Oscar is the shit! His entire family is amazing (especially my little sister, little Marisol!!)!!! We should give them something to show our appreciation, like a beer or a high five or something.
...or 90 minutes of noise each and every game day. PS- love this pic michelle got of Oscar playing the drum on sunday. He looks like a little kid on christmas morning http://www.flickr.com/photos/mich_mill/2603944268/in/set-72157605764600420/
There's even more, man. Did you know that Oscar made it through three rounds of eliminations on So You Think You Can Dance? Others of us would have bragged about how well we had done; but humility is a virtue for Oscar. And let's not even get into the self-sacrifice involved in making sure no chicken is left behind!
i want to know how he remembers everybodys name... I see him for a couple of minutes each. An amazing guy
