Finally a little respect on behalf of FIFA. I am however surprised that Mexico is getting respect from FIFA from all angles.(MNT, FMF and Individual players)

I know that nobody probably cares but La Liga should be the best in the world, it is far more entertaining than Serie A and the Premiership. I'm also clueless as to why the Argentine league is at number 4.

I'm shocked at Germany being so far down on the list.

Colombia being in the top 10 is also a little surprising.

I wonder how they base their decisions?

Their methodology is a joke. Number of points earned by top 5 teams in the league in all competitions, including domestic league. I've taken it apart quite a few times. I don't feel like doing it again.

well the mexican league should be 7th. just above argentina ;) . i agree that the spanish league should not be number 1. they could not get a team past the round of 16 in the last champions league. and forlan which sucked in england is suddenly top dog in spain. may be different styles of play, but still.

According to these IFFHS rankings but I personally believe the Mexican league is better than the Argentine league due to the fact that the Mexican league hires better talent from abroad than the Argentine league and also due to the fact that Most of Mexico's top stars play in the Mexican league and Most of Argentina's top stars play abroad, however the Argentine league like the Brazillian league is a talent pool which produces a good number of rising stars which is one of the reasons the Argentine league holds it's own.

    Colombia better than the Bundesliga???

I think the EPL should probably be first, then Italy, then Spain.

I'd probably but Brazil ahead of Argentina, especially when you consider two Brazilian teams are in the CL final.

You could make a case for the MFL being sixth or seventh.

Anybody know what they base their criteria on?

The classification of the best leagues of the world is made objectively without any out side influence of any sort. We follow the criteria that the level of performance of a league is reflected by the best classified teams of that league who in turn usually represent their country in international club competitions. If one looks at the football power-houses of the world, one notices that regularly 4 or 5 clubs of their leagues are always competing in con tinental competitions. By adding the points won in all competitions by the five best placed clubs of each league, we have the points for the country which in turn helps to establish a fair classification. It is important to note that only the yearly classification is representative, since all competitions move along the whole season and over twelve months, we have an objective view of the best. This system has been used since 1991, and it is recognized today as the most precise in rating the leagues of the world

Well, because the last time I was watching these sport news and they were telling the audience that their from the same sort of federation, association, "whatever". Anyway the (IFFHS) is the higher authority when deciding these ranks, and votes.
