Hi Dearman, how are you mate? I know Raymond Braine also played as Right Halfback in NT. I guess also as Inside Forward. But his peak was as CF in Czechoslovakian league, i think they used the Danubian School system, which mean the #9 played as a classical Pyramid CF, even a bit deeper, as Sindelar for example.
I'm a little unwell after surgical removal of wisdom tooth, mate Interestingly, May I conclude from your suggestion that Raymond Braine should be considered in the same category as Sindelar and Paul Van Himst (FW not STK) ?
Yes, but that's me. Mainly, for his versatility (IL in WC'38 and RHB in some friendlies) and the system played in Czech league. I'll search for more details.
Raymond Braine certainly played sometimes as inside forward, and moved to deep positions when he played there. I took this from a history book covering Holland-Belgium matches and relations (who met each other most often). For halfback, don't you confuse him with his brother Pierre Braine? Pierre Braine played halfback, and was captain as well for some while (1930WC and 1928 Olympics).
R.Braine was mainly a CF (i repeat it) in the Danubian School System (Austria+Hungary+Czechs) Here's a Mitropa match in which R.Braine played as CHB (by emergency) http://www.iffhs.de/?29dad76b9b97699b94a89a94a85fdcdc3bfcdc0aec28d6eda8a30d "The Belgian had an amazing technique and many tricks, and was also an outstanding combination player, soloist and goalgetter" Here are some matches in which Braine had famous duels against opposing Pyramid Centrehalves (half midfield playmakers, half defenders) http://www.iffhs.de/?29dad76b9b94e85bd5e89a14a85fdcdc3bfcdc0aec28d6eda8a713 http://www.iffhs.de/?29dad76b9b976bda15281ad7285fdcdc3bfcdc0aec28d6eda8a00b http://www.iffhs.de/?29dad76b9b97685b55e89815e85fdcdc3bfcdc0aec28d6eda8a717

Great! very intersting!! However, is it ranking order? or no particular order? If it is ranking, could you please post original Centre backs list too? It is hard for me to combine and rank them.
It is roughly in (subjective) ranking order. It's not exact. I posted the original centre back list. The only thing I did is inserting a blank space in the middle. There's no separate list for stoppers or sweepers. If you insist I can take a photograph. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/ifbs-top-300-legends-1983.1990521/#post-28212154

Yes, each player has a write-up. The length can vary and sometimes lesser names receive more space as bigger names (from the same country). In that respect there are sometimes oddities.
Ok, I know I am, like, two years and a half late, but I feel like this is of immediate relevance to my thread about the 1910s. This is great because it's one of the "official" proof I was looking for regarding Schlosser's status. He is in the list. And those were the years in which the internet craze for weird statistics hadn't started yet. Really interesting.
And I see he is in this list, too. Mmh. Curioser and curioser, to quote Lewis Carroll. puck, would it be too much to ask to post / copy here the profile given to Schlosser in that book? Thanks in advance!
