Banned for life? Impossible. No action? Possible Fine? if so, how much? Suspension? the suspension is the one that I'm interested in. He could get a game, two, even three, and be none the worse for it. At least his career isn't in danger today. But there's another issue about Dema and the Burn that needs to be addressed. If I were Hunt and Garber, I'd be thinking about suspending him for all League games vs. Dallas for this season. The reason is simple, even manifest. He's bad blood with the players in Dallas. He was before this happened, and now he's even worse. WAY worse, because OBrien is a very popular guy not just with fans, but with players on the team. The fans who now are on the endline of the field in Southlake, will be enraged to see him, and could well get ugly even by Dallas standards. This is a problem for the Twinkies in Southlake, who may not actually understand or care about this issue. They certainly will wonder why such vitriol and rank language is being launched at a DC United player they don't recognize. If I were able to go, I would be planning on being especially ugly to the guy. A short suspension (one or two) brings him back just in time for the Dallas game in Dallas. Not what MLS needs right now.
Fine of 2-10k and a 5-10 game ban. This might send a message to everyone that recklessness will not be tolerated. If I was at the game, he would get booed, he would see a noose as he walked by, various chants direct towards him, and a hello and good bye. Don't let the door hit you on the way out message at the end of the game.
A 1-3 game suspension would be totally unacceptable. That's what Razov gets for a little bitch slap, or what someone might get for a knee to the groin. This is a second broken leg for cripes sake! And I will certainly be waiting at the Southside rail during the walkout for this piece of scum with some choice words about his ancestry.
Interesting. Certainly non-traditional. Even if he wasn't suspended, I would - if I were Ray Hudson - make a coaching decision to leave him out of the lineup for games against Dallas, if just to protect him from retribution.
3 game suspension, same as when the G Man shoved the ref. More than three games punishs United. I want to punish Kovalenko. $10,000 fine. If the league wants to stop this kind of behavior, the players need to know that the MLS will come after their wallets. This is how these fouls will stop. Too bad United doesn't punish Kovalenko.
I would like: $25,000 fine and suspended utill Ronnie comes back. If Ronnie doesn't come back, suspended for life. What's realistic: $5,000 fine and 5 game suspension. Anything less shows the league is not serious about ending nasty play. Maybe we can wake the library up behind the D.C. bench when they come to town.
Trey Fitzgerald is not in the office today, but one of his minions says 4pm eastern is the target time to post the press release announcing the league's action on this matter. -bs
Good punishment A wedgie, preferably atomic. Season tickets to sit with the soccer moms and rugrats at Southlake. Mandatory attendance. Must ride to and from games in SUV with screaming kids and female driver.
bridging from the big "ban-dema" thread.... Viking64 posted: >The referee crew really tied the hands of MLS. If > they had issued any foul or card, they might be > able to upgrade it...but ref credibility will be a > problem the minute they take action on a total > noncall. then Adrian posted: > Actually this make it easier. FIFA rules state that > no governing body can change a referee's > decision. However, if a referee makes no decision > at all, then the governing body can do what they > like. Happens in England all the time. The league probably already has the punishment fully cooked and they are simply nuancing the final language of it. So it's probably safe to start speculating on what to do if the "time and fine doesn't fit the crime." I doubt the competition committee has been following these threads, and the league has been known, from time to time, to make really stupid decisions. One of which would be using the ref's non-call as justification for a less-than-expected level of punishment. So the good news is that we the fans already have our best weapon locked and loaded to counter-attack this afternoon's proclamation pending it's possible (probable?) insufficient (in our minds) resolution to the situation. cut to the final scene from RoboCop: ------------------- "Dick, you're fired" beep beep beep OCP Directive 4 terminated "Thank you!" ------------------- Dick = Dema Directive 4 = ref's call on the field The Old Man = competition committee Robocop = us -bs
Make that four hormonal female teenage siblings who absolutely hate each other, and are convinced that whoever is not in the front seat will never get a turn there for the rest of her life. AND he has to sit in the very back seat, where there is a lack of sufficient leg room for any adult male (who only gives in because it is the path of least resistance), so possibly his legs will have to amputated for lack of circulation. THAT is hell, take my husband's word for it.
The deja-vu flashback is severe.... I knew heading down to the Dallas Cup Final that my Sulphur and their Water were not going to mix well, and sure enough, the Product Managers had done Zero Preparation or Education of their own employees, who in this case happened to be Dallas' finest. Injustice piled upon injustice for the best customers and key constituents. It's written in to the MLS/USsoccer bylaws, along with Chicago's guaranteed allocations. Depending on what happens this afternoon, a meeting with Sucklack PD in advance of 31 May is probably in order. In fact, I believe we should try to file assault charges against Dema in our jurisdiction (Sucklack) if MLS doesn't step up this afternoon. At least that will wake up the Twinkies so they know what's coming. It would severly fork w/ Wagner's world, but we're already in such a world of hurt that from our perspective, we don't have much left to lose in Sucklack; the only thing we have to be careful of is jeopardizing our 2-year wormhole transfer of the Cotton Pitch paradigm over to Frisco. -bs
An attractive possibility, though I very much doubt we could find a cop to arrest Kovalenko. How about a citizen's arrest, or a civil suit claiming damages?
I like the idea of missing all games vs. Dallas. This punishes him and punishes him in a way that helps Dallas. Further, they should consider banning him from the postseason as a fitting punitive measure. (Of course this assumes they will make the playoffs.) I have always disliked the fact that a guy can get a yellow in a game against you, have that card be the final yellow card in a series, and have that player miss the next game, which is against your rivals, and thus hurts your teams chances. If possible, any punishment should benefit the team fouled or injured.
Actaully, that is an interesting thought. So far, I have steadfastly supported that Kovalenko should be punished, not United. As a top Burn player will be sidelined for the year, should not the punsihment somehow benefit the Burn? Of course, this did not happen. Kovalenko was hardly given a slap on the wrist.
THAT my friends is the Magic Bullet. We should divert the bounty fund towards something that will really generate headlines: "Burn Supporters Group files Civil Suit against Dema Kovalenko for loss and suffering not addressed by MLS Disciplinary Tribunal." We serve him the papers in front of his own teammates in the Dragon lockerroom on the 31st. Lawyer Capitalism at it's finest, and it serves our needs in a manner that won't be oil to the water of our Vested Interests. -bs
Maybe we could have a mock trial. I nominate Larry Joe Doherty(Texas Justice) as the presiding judge. All I know is what a crock of crap from MLS HQ. They are spineless jellyfish. I am extremely upset and unable to post coherently. Chad Deering endear yourself to us Burn fans. I don't care if you get a red, but show the rat, that his thuggery will not go unpunished by the Burn.
Why not? An old lady sued the people who made her microwave after she fried her poodle to death for "not warning" her and won. The lady who spilled coffee on herself and blamed McDonalds for not telling her it was hot won several million. In our case, we lose a top entertainer and must suffer as fans. With today's stupid lawsuits going around, we could get several million and use that to move us back to the Cotton Bowl and have money left over to buy golf carts for every member of the Inferno. Maybe this is all wishful thinking.
I'm liking this more and more. Because the Absurdity Quotient is already so high (league's fault, dema's fault, hudson's fault), we might as well "align" with all the other parties and jump right in. -bs
I would fine him a 1,000 and suspend him 1 game. oh thats what the MLS just did. They are so tough. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=266546&cc=5901
