I am the farthest thing from a Reagan apologist, but I have to say that people that feel compelled to kick a dead corpse during the week of his funeral aren't going to convert a lot of people regardless of the argument or the logic.

Some of this stuff is ridiculous. Yea, I feel bad for a mother of three that died from TB, but that is a part of economic sanctions. I am sure you could find similar stories in South Africa, Iraq and Cuba. When you tighten the screws, the most deserving are left wanting with the hope that they will eventually put pressure on their government for reform.

You may not like Reagan's policy in central and South America (and I didn't), but those were political decisions that we support or challenge at the ballot box.

The bottom line is that conservatives have waited a long, long time for their icon. The Democrats in the last century have had FDR and JFK with a strange phenomenon of republicans linking themselves to those two when it suits their purpose and being called out on it by democrats "I knew Jack Kennedy . . ."

Republicans have had no one of similar stature in the last hundred years, so it is not surprising that Reagan will be elevated to a level he might not deserve. That's ok. Let them have that. The Democrat icons certainly had many faults that have virtually disappeared as they have reached monument status. That is just the way it goes.

George Washington was not exactly a tactical military genious, but who wants to hear about his shortcomings?
