I'm not high on him but he does bring something we lack in midfield. More toughness/roughness attitude. Kimmich, Kroos, Gundo etc are softies compared to him.
ter Stegen (30) Klostermann (26) , Süle (27) , Rüdiger (29) , Halstenberg (31) Kimmich (27) Goretzka (27) , Havertz (23) Werner (26) , Gnabry (27) , Sané (26) Should be a contender for the World Cup title in my eyes.
almost. Mine have two minor changes: ---------------------------ter Stegen ---Klostermann----Süle-----Torunarigha-----Gosens --------------Goretzka---Kimmich----Brandt --------------Gnabry-----Havertz------Sané
2022 starting 11 by age (4-3-3) GK- Ter Stegen (30 years old) LB- Halstenberg (31 years old) CB- Sule (27 years old) CB- Torunarigha (25 years old) RB- Gosens (28 years old) CDM- Goretzka (27 years old) LCM- Kimmich (27 years old) RCM- Brandt (26 years old) LW- Gnabry (27 years old) CF- Havertz (23 years old) RW- Sane (26 years old)
I think France and Brazil are the favorites. But as I said, we are definitely among the 4-5 best teams if everyone is fit.
I feel some pessimism about DFB from 2018-onwards. 2018 WC=disaster 2019 NL=disaster Euro 2020, with France and Portugal, oof group of Death. as long as that clown Low is coach I'm not convinced. And one thing I dislike about Germany is there is a lack of depth in too many positions. Some injuries and we are heading towards danger zone. we seem more into the dark ages 2.0 from late 90s/early 00s. France, Brazil etc are likely ahead and favs.
CB is such a mess and I'm not sure I trust any of the options. I think the real issue with Germany is that vast majority of our cbs can make it work at club level BUT they aren't really legit great International options. Playing vs best players/teams in the world. how many of these guys would you trust vs Messi/Argentina gang, oof. Or the English or French attackers.......Or the Brazilian technicians...... we also have currently no set cb in XI as Low seems unsure if he wants back 2 or 3. Even back 3 we look like shit and concede too many goals. There is a huge lack of concentration and chemistry at the back too. none ecxue an air of confidence in them, more like biting your fingernail stuff.
Neuer and Ter Stegen are two of the best GK's in the world, that's not bad. How many other countries have a better first and second choice to pick from? The rest aren't world class but does that matter? I agree that the specific CF position has little depth, but tbh that isn't a major issue as there is enough depth in attacking areas to cover for that. I mean if everyone is fit there will be Werner, Gnabry, Havertz, Sane, Brandt, Reus plus Goretzka who is pretty good at joining the attack. Scoring goals shouldn't be a problem with those players. CB isn't ideal and Low would have helped himself by not sidelining Hummels and Boateng, however it is what it is and at least the likes of Sule, Rudiger, Ginter and Kehrer should be playing in the CL next season. Tbh not many countries have particularly great CB's these days anyway.
Yeah but other than Neuer and Ter Stegen, you guys have Leno who is pretty underrated as a goalkeeper even though he plays for Arsenal. But Neuer he's done. I mean Russia 2018 basically proved that. I mean I would rather have Ter Stegen as my #1 if I'm in Germany. Hell at this point, I would take Ter Stegen, Leno and Trapp as my 3 goalkeepers for 2022. But are any of those players you mentioned a pure out and out striker? They are not. They are comprised of mostly wingers at best. Only exceptions that could play that lone striker role or if you have a 2 striker set up then your 2 strikers would have to be Werner and Reus. But the defensive depth I can agree with you on.
None of Salah, Mane or Firmino are pure out and out strikers but that hasn't stopped Liverpool dominating. In an ideal world Germany would have a Lewandowski or Kane but the main thing is to score goals, and Germany has the attacking threat to do that against anyone, with or without an out and out no.9 imo.
