if you could start a team with any one player in the world who would it be? and why?

my suggestions would probably be nesta or henry, although this is a very difficult question.

    Without a doubt, Alan Smith.

I've never seen a player with more heart, dedication, and will to win in my life. He's loyal and gives 100% everytime (for however long) he's on the pitch. And off of it, he's a saint. Always volunteering for charities. And since he doesn't drink (at all!) he wont be in any boozing scandles!

Probably the player i admire the most.

If he can choose Smith, then I most definitely can choose Robbie Fowler.

Hmmmm, I'd have either Friedel, Hamann or Duff. Friedel, because he's one of the best keepers around, Hamann because he's very consistent and you can play more attacking midfielders and Duff as he's one of the world's best left wingers, which are very hard to come by.

Alan Shearer...the model footballer. Captain Courageous, wears his heart on his sleeve when in a Newcastle shirt. Gives everything he has every single match. That man will die for his club and when he was still on the Nat. Team, would die for them too.

What is it, 8 red cards by age 21? Even as a Leeds fan, I'd stay faaaaaaar away from him.

Left winger seems to be the toughest position to fill with a really high quality player. I would therefore pick Ryan Giggs. Plus that would get him away from ManUtd.

I will give you a list of 10 from different countries that would equally fit the bill: In no particular order.

    1) Davids
    2) Raul
    3) Zidane
    4) Inzagghi
    5) Ballack
    6) Carlos
    7) Simeone
    8) Recoba
    9) Friedel
    10) Figo

Well, to take the question literally as the poster seems to have intended, "starting a team" around someone, I think you'd want to go young, and stay away from twilghters like Shearer, Zidane, Davids, Figo, etc.

Of young twentysomethings, I think I'd go with Trezeguet or Ronaldino. Couldn't go wrong with Saviola either.

Steven Gerrard. Great speed, wicked shot, excellent vision, good in the air, tackles hard, and young.

Love Didi, but he's not a player you'd build a team around. He's more the final piece to the puzzle.

I'm thinking someone in the mold of Hierro: Plays defense and midfield, plays both feet fairly well (though that doesn't matter as much), and has excellent leadership. Not sure of any young players who really fit that mold, but here are my choices:

    Gerrard
    Murphy
    Raul
    Saviola
    Nesta
    Ronaldinho
    Pirlo
    Totti
    Rio Ferdinand

Paul Gascoigne. He can't play anymore, but he sure does one hell of a pissup.
