If the revs make the final will they sellout the stadium?

Discussion in 'MLS: General' started by falcon6, Oct 6, 2002.

  1. I think there is a chance this could happen, like DC did in 97. Any thoughts?

someone in N&A said the city of foxbourough only gave giletter a 40,000 person lease for that date

i'm not saying that's final... just what it is right now

  3. I hope thats wrong. I think there would at least be 50+ if the revs are in it.

I think if the demand is up there, Foxboro will reevalute the situation. They'd be crazy not to.

i hate how the revs (mls) manage the capacity for that stadium. throughout the year they consistantly held down their own attendence by only opening certain sections of the seating. i realize that they might be trying to create a demand, but jesus christ. this is the mls cup.

I'd be surprised if they could sellout that they'd keep the sections closed. They just want to concentrate the fans for TV and save a little in costs to open up sections.

That said, I wouldn't expect it to sellout, but I'd sure like to see it.

One contributing factor, if the Revs were to make it, is the fact that the 20th is a bye week for the Patriots. So, those people that are hardcore Pats fans and casual Revs fans will probably go to the game, as they don't have the option of watching the Patriots on TV. Also, there's also the possibility that Pats fans in general might go to the match just to check out the stadium, as many couldn't get tickets to Pats games. With all that said, I think weather is an important factor, as a large portion of people will make a game-day decision on whether or not to attend.

Of course, this is all presuming that the Revs can make it. The fact that they can't clinch it in two games (and allow for more advertising) doesn't help the possibility of a sellout, though.

I dunno. It's tough to imagine a sellout right now with the crowds the Revs have been getting in the playoffs. I suppose all they need is publicity and time, but still...

Well, in 1997 DC United didn't get great crowds prior to their sell-out either.

In their semi-final match against New England they got 12,450 and in the Eastern conf. finals against Columbus they got 11,820.

I think it will be great for MLS Cup if the Revs make it! We need a boost and some luck! Look what happened with the All-Star game delay.
    Go New England!

I would absolutely love to see the Rev's make it. What a great opportunity for an awesome event on ABC. I think Puddle of Mud was a decent choice for halftime, too. It's no "Aerosmith", but for the price range, decent.

Blurry is the song you're thinking of Nacional.

This band will make for a good halftime show. Some people might come to the game just to see them. Thus, a larger crowd might materialize though I doubt a sellout will happen but would gladly put my foot in my mouth if it did.

Um. Exactly which game did the Revs turn away fans at?

if you've gone to a game at the razor, andy, you'd know how screwed up revs management is.
    1) they only have 2 or 3 lines open on either side of the stadium, so we usually wait about 30 minutes to get into the stadium itself.
    2) a lot of people have had problems getting tickets to certain sections, especially "The Fort" (standing section behind the north goal). I've heard many stories about how people who called for that section either got "we're sold out" (when it wasn't) or "what's the fort?".
see, when you use NFL management to run an MLS franchise, things get lost in the mix. some fans here have gotten very irritated with the way the front office is dealing with them, so the revs are, in a way, driving the fans from the game.

    reminds me of a joke.
"how many of krafts does it take to screw in a light bulb?" "none...they're too busy screwing the revs fans."

Actually, now that I'm trying to think of it, I can't really say. It seems like I heard it during the weekend game? I haven't been able to find it on the internet. Did anybody else hear this, or am I just crazy. That's entirely possible.

seems to me that if they sold out with their normal soccer capacity, they could sell across from the goal opposite the fort.

if they sold out that, they could slowly open up other sections on the camera side.

The entire lower bowl is open for this game at the moment. If they sell that out then they will open more seats in the corners called the mendzine or somthing to that effect. Some things that will help out though as people mentioned is that the pats have a bye. Nobody will come to the game however just to see the stadium or the half time. Somthing that will hurt them is playing a west coast team instead of an East Coast team. Less away Supporters. I say we leave this discusion untill A) if the Revs do make it because the crew are real tough and B) We find out how many tickets are sold as of now because if only 15,000 are sold now then don't even talk of a sell out.

I just did a search of ticket master and alot of tickets are still left in the lower bowl. Untill we see a big push in tickets sold, lets aim to sell out the lower bowl. Which is around 30,000 seats.

See what was the point of that post, people knew what I meant and I didn't feel like getting the exact spelling on it so you waste a post trying to act all smart. Why don't we talk about soccer on these boards and not English uh. Go Revs

I think you mean, "What was the point of that post?" And I think the reason he responded was your statement, "the mendzine or something like that," appeared to request clarification.

For the record, I have no idea what "trying to act all sport" means. So I guess there's evidence that people don't always know what you mean when you don't write in proper English.

they never turned fans away. they simply would not sell extra seating in certain sections (and there was plenty) whenever there was a "sellout." this happened several times throughout the year. their excuse for this was that they wanted to create a demand for tickets... albiet, an understandable one.
