Should the free world be allowed to vote for him. It seems a bit odd that the majority of the free world should be so disenfrachised in such a decision.

i'm serious, how can the american president claim to speak for the free world as a flagship for democracy, when he is forced upon the "free world" who have no choice in his appointment.

i'm not saying that the rest of the world should be allowed to choose america's leader - but why should that leader claim to be the leader of the rest of the world as well?

That is a fair point and it's well made. The American president should at least, when he refers to himself as the leader of the free world, add 'self-appointed'.

Why is it when it's true?

It's just like in films when aliens land and ask to be taken to the leader it's always the damn American president but what if they landed in Turkmenistan?

    i prefer the tag "unelected"

eg: as unelected leader of the free world i think that we need to bring democracy to all of the disadvantaged people of the world.

you know, at least dont be hypocritical about it

You need to break that sentence up a bit, I think it might be too long and complicated for him.

no no, this isn't a personal reference to bush, but american presidents as a collective group.

I apologise. One thing I am not clear on: is it that the american presidents as a collective group call themselves the leader of the free world that you object to, or is that they act as the leader of the free world that you have a problem with?

so when kennedy gave a speech in 1960 defining what it meant to be leader of the free world and stated that "A Great President should clearly understand what it means to be the Leader of the Free World", he was just joking around was he?

When the Europeans win a World Series, THEN they can whine about not electing the LEADER of the Free World.

    why should he??

it is obviously something that promotes him in a positive light towards the people he wants to re-elect him

well since the idea of being "leader of the free world" was a cornerstone of kennedy's election campaign, including the speech he made in 1960 which was part of that campaign, you are simply splitting hairs. a man who says that he is running for the post of leader of the free world is proclaiming himself leader of the free world in the event that he wins that campaign.

Well that depends. I've seen many a people losing a lot of money whilst holding a full house that they should have thrown down.
