Would you approve? Is Altidore Overrated? Lack of goals troubling?

He'd be a crazy idiot. Jozy didn't score in the WC but he was our leading scorer in qualifying.

I think for a big guy, he tries to go down too easily, but he has a ton of potential. He'll find the back of the net evetually, but if he's dropped for someone better I wouldn't mind. You have to earn it and you shouldn't be a lock. I think Finley has a harder time finding the back of the net, I think Buddle would have put that away today.

Jozy isn't exactly setting the bar extremely high at this point, so if someone comes along and shows more there's no reason they shouldn't get the nod.

I would if another two or three strikers prove to be better choices.

Well, it depends if we have a better option, which right now we do not. Altidore has his shortcomings, no doubt. But I still do not see any other American forwards out there better than him.

    I wouldnt automatically start altidore

I think a buddle gomez pairing would have been great

But he will always start with Davies unless they completely dont work for some reason

I think Altidore will find it hard to break into a professional European team. He loses the ball far too much and he doesn't have much technique. He has a hard time striking the ball cleanly and hooks almost every shot. He's not that great with his head, despite his size. He really only works off the ball when he wants to, which isn't enough. So if he's not poking in goals, then his play doesn't help the team. If he goes on prolonged droughts (like the past four games of the WC), I can see a coach dropping him. The US doesn't have much talent up front so he'll get more chances to play than he deserves, but a top professional team won't stand for his play.

No players job should be safe.

although the sentiment is a little aggressively harsh, it would do Jozy good to hear this type of comment from one of his advisors/employers - real soon.

Jozy needs to impress a coach with his daily training committment.

*If* we have a better in-form strikers than Altidore, then YES, of course he should be benched.

Our forwards, as a country, are total crap. Yet, Jozy is by far the most advanced and worthy of them all to start for the USMNT. He's a babe, and still has MUCH to learn, but you don't bench your leading scorer in qualifying for shits and giggles, especially with nobody really pushing him for the spot.

Altidore and Findley were utterly awful this tournament.

Davies is the forward of the future.

I agree. He knows he'll always get the start, and maybe he isn't pushed to be at his best.

Our forwards didn't score in four games. Altidore has the excuse of youth, and he created some chances for others, but the rest of them - Findley, Gomez, Buddle - had zero chance of scoring or even helping the team much. Davies was a huge loss. Rossi would have been a massive help. So Josie's position is safe but not because of anything he's done.

That is not true Buddle had a chance to score against Slovenia, Findley had a few chances, and Gomez had his too now were they able to finish them nope. None of the strikers were able to finish there chances.

Why does Jozy get a pass for not scoring? He had his chances and did not finish the dude is a striker right so he should score even if he is young.

So he's the US version of Emile Hesky. Players that can out physical defenders can stick around for years. Even if it's only as a bit player. I'd give the kid a couple more years to work on his shooting.

if our next coach drops altidore from the starting lineup, then we are already screwed and throwing away the 2014 world cup if they have that kind of judgment.

who else would they choose over him

name any other strikers not on this world cup squad that BOTH have the same athletic ability and have performed like he has over the past 2 years.

    i'm waiting.

Relax buddy. This kind of overreacting thread is only started because people expect more out of Altidore. And that's alright, that's good. We should be expecting more from our players.
