I am urging all to write a letter of displeasure to the MLS Commisioner to voice disapproval of the league for including Chivas in the MLS Allstar game.

Why? Is this some kind of anti-Mexican sentiment coming to the fore?

What the hell is this all about? Is Chivas playing Boca or the MLS All-Stars? If they're playing Boca in a doubleheader match, forget about it. If they're playing the All-Stars, it might not be the greatest idea, but let's not be ridiculous. There are more important things to complain to MLS about.

Don't even go there. Get real. This has nothig to do with Mexicans. I would be opposed if it was Real Madrid, Manchester, Bayern or AC Milan. It has to do with MLS All-stars playing a non-MLS team, and a so-so team at that. It downplay the advances of MLS and insults the MLS players who instead of being cheered will now be booed by the very likely pro-Chivas crowd. All-Star games ar supposed to be celebration of the players.

Like what? This knocks at the very basis of having a league.

I thinkn it's a great idea, but have you seen the prices?

I got a letter from the Galaxy last night offering an advance sale, and tix prices were out of this world.

Maybe the ticket prices will be a big enough deterrent without an organized boycott...

Do the Chivas fans typically pay this much when the team comes to town?

They usually play in the Coliseum, so they don't pay $60. The theory is, small stadium, big prices.

Me, I'd watch if it was free, but that's about it.

I don't understand all the fuss either. At least we stand a chance of selling the stadium out now and getting a loud crowd which will look good on ABC. If it were just a East vs West game I have a bad feeling in my gut that the game would not sell out, how would that look on TV?

all star games always brings big crowds, no matter what sport (even WUSA, which was on last nite). Attendence shouldn't be an issue here. But i agree with others, Garber should listen to MLS fans, and MLS fans (the majority of them) don't want to see Chivas. When MLS released the statement that the MLS all stars would play a "prestigious international opponent", MLS fans are expecting a European club, not a mexican side. I'd rather see AC Milan vs MLS Allstars, which would start a tradition of MLS Allstars vs UEFA Champions League Champs.

    1. Chivas are a good and very prestigious team. We are in North America, not Europe. I would venture to say Chivas and America are the 2 most popular teams in this country, whether we like it or not. Hopefully some day this will change, but for now it is a reality.
    2. This is an opportunity for MLS to show it's class. It is also an opportunity to be embarrassed. If the Stars go out and spank Chivas, maybe we get a little bit of credibility in the Mex/American community (although probably not--god knows beating their national team over and over has just engendered excuses). Of course, if Chivas wins, we know what will be said about MLS.

Either way, I'm going to watch. The thing that separates soccer from the other sports in this country is that it is international. A match like this really couldn't happen in an allstar game for any of the other sports. Sure beats East/West.

"It hurts us here," Jose Luis Luviano, a fan in Mexico City, said as he punched his chest. Tears melted the Mexican flags painted on his cheeks. "There has to be an end to this disgrace where (Americans) treat us like rats and idiots."

i'd like to see a joint MLS/A-League all star game in the future. MLS stars v. A-League stars.

I don't know about you guys but the All-Star FORMAT was not a surprise. It was announced some time ago that it would be an MLS XI taking on a TBA international team, and it should have been VERY apparent when allstar voting started and you were only voting for a single set of allstars.

What makes you think anyone is surprised about that? Besides Llew's article, where have you seen any mention of it on any boards?

The A-League All-Stars played Pumas in '95, I believe, when the game was in Atlanta. I think they drew a pretty decent crowd. At least it was decent by A-League standards. I don't see a problem with MLS All-Stars playing Chivas. It's better than them playing somebody out of the Dr. Martens League, and I wouldn't have put it past MLS to do something like that.

Nothing against Chivas as a club, but I do have a problem with choosing them as an opponent when the game's in LA. I expect a large percentage of the crowd to be booing the MLS All-Stars every time they touch the ball, which just isn't appropriate for an All-Star Game.

Well, then, maybe they should have scheduled Rangers or somebody if they were going to play in LA. :D

I think the MLS all stars should play the WUSA all stars. If the men win, Title IX will be banished forever from all college campuses (campi??).
