    He stepped up.

Just here to say Valverde was so refreshing for our midfield. He needs to play a lot more!

For what it's worth, we would not have scored a second goal without valverde who was also rated a 7 but I think he should have been a bit higher.

I like him, he gets stuck in and his passing is purposeful. Ceballos and Isco waste too much time on the ball with little end product, Fede seems to read the game better and react faster.

Until yesterday i did not know we pulled him back. To bad considering he won`t get decent minutes, while another year or two "abroad" would make wonders for him. Potential is definitely there.

Someone change the title of this thread please. Especially, if it's going to be on the front page often.

I know teams have injuries. But this is just weird. So many small injuries

Apparently he suffered this one over the break with Uruguay

In a matter of 2 games he has become one of ky favorites. Fantastic stuff from this kid today and earned a spot as a starter.

Wish uruguay would let him rest in these friendlies. He runs so hard..and Uruguay plays an atletico like style as well. Just let the kid rest

Reminded me a bit of Gerrard. Same physique and way of running. He still has a long way to go but I truely believe he'll eventually fulfill his potential. Would love to see him, Odegaard and Casemiro as our midfielders someday. It would be a pretty balanced midfield considering all 3 players have a high workrate (something we don't see nowadays). Let's just hope our forward line in the future is also beast level.

Happy for Fede, another trick up his sleeve is that he can slot in as a DM ( like he has for Uruguay) if Casimero needs to be rested or is suspended, one of his strongest attributes besides tackling is his ability to read the game and intercept passes.

Enjoying watching him like the rest of you. Well-rounded and his length helped today in keeping those balls alive. Let the kid play more and continue to grow. Adds youthful energy that we desperately need in midfield.

Called that he was going to be a beast more than a year ago. Fede:inlove:

Just wish Zidane would have kept Ceballos and Kovacic too. What an explosive midfield that would have been. Three quick players that run their lungs out, and all excel at passing, dribbling and tackling. Cheap overhaul possibility missed :(

Nah dropping Kova was a good move.

This kid is way better and has way more heart.

Thats not really a fact based statement. Kovacic has always been a very hard worker with a rare mix of skill and tenacity. You just suffer from bad memory as usual. 'Way better' lol.

And it never was a choice between either Kovacic or Valverde afaik.

Zidane will be vindicated for sticking with Valverde and letting Llorente and Ceballos go. He's many times better

Valverde will have a waaaay better career. I know it's only been 2 games. But im willing to bet anything on it.

Kovacik has skills and workrate but he lacks the mental toughness to sicceed. Always someone else's fault. He is always the victim. Can't make it here or in the epl or with his national team. He is the eternal promise.

Valverde is a gamer. Both for club and country

Agreed but to nitpick a bit, Fede has been good going back to last year.

So much cliche and cringeworthy conventional wisdom in this paragraph that I won't even begin to address it.
