That would be awesome. I understand how hard it must be for him to leave the pitch, but the timing would be perfect.

There was a player on the national team that was angry because he wasn't playing and Luka was telling him he's still valuable, everybody is part of the group and the family on and off the pitch. Was in the world cup doc, that left a huge impression on me.

Man, I remember when he arrived there was little to no fan fair outside of again people complaining that we paid 30 mill for him I think it was ?

He was very good in Spurs people "in the know" were just waiting for him to put his foot on the door to be a starter.

In his first year they called him the worst transfer which was very harsh, though no one is saying shit now.

Luka is the best MF of his generation, and no, Iniesta, Lampard and Gerard are not better then Modric.

Not even close in my eyes.

IMHO Iniesta is in the same ball park, the ability to make something out of nothing and the vision, he bothered me just as much as Messi in those days but that’s just me, Lampard and Gerard though, no, not for me

Yeah Iniesta is the closest argument, on his absolute highs I can see it, though all around he does not have Luka's longevity and he was washed at 33.

ALSO Luka is good on attack and defense Iniesta not so much in defense.

If Luka was English the world would have been mad about him.

Yeah, I agree with this. Iniesta was just special and a huge, huge pain when we faced them. Both Iniesta and Modric are very high on any midfield list. Very rare talents. Modric would have my preference due to longevity, but it's close!

Gerrard and Lampard, while very good to great players themselves, shouldn't be even mentioned in the same book, let alone sentence. In fact, Iniesta and Modric are in a completely different genre.

Man, what a player Modric turned out to be. I remember the 2006 WC, where there was some controversy I believe around the Croatian NT, as Modric – who was known as one of the greatest Croatian talents ever at the time – didn't get to start the first game, as Z. Kranjcar selected his son, Niko Kranjcar (a good player btw, surprised me), for the starting spot. Modric did feature in the second and third game, but still only as a sub for Kranjcar. He came from far, but he exceeded every single expectation. Iconic player!

Modric is out there on his own as a #8.

I think I’ve said this before in this thread so apologies if I’m repeating myself, but if I were playing an all time 433 I would have Luka and Maradona as the 8 and 10. I don’t think anyone has the blend of everything you need to be a midfielder quite like Luka.

Hehe yes Niko Kranjcar was actually good. A very much "streets will never forget" player for EPL watchers.

Back to Luka, great player agreed him and Iniesta are up there. Gerrard and Lampard are legends but they did nothing for their national teams. I don't even mean winning because that is a team game. But literally average in their game play under different managers.

Iniesta has been a balon top 3 finalist and Modric actually won it.

The great thing about the goal was that it wasn't even outrageous. Modric has scored that before often.

It was not the shot that impressed me.... it was his first touch and how it tricked the defender that made it so impressive.

Yes, that first touch was perfection. You can't teach that.

His first touch was gold, then he followed up with Modric trade-mark curling shot. It's beautiful.

Iniesta never had the defense nous that Modric had/ has.

Hoping Luka goes back to Dinamo Zagreb to finish out his career. It would be great for the country. He may not have the legs but the brain and class is still there. He could probably play until 40 I would say.

Iniesta had Messi and Negreira on his side for years. Modric almost won a WC for Croatia. No discussion.

Iniesta arguably should've been more individually rewarded for his Spain performances as well.

I think nobody beats Luka on longevity alone. Incredible athlete.

Both quality players but as all agreed Luka on top due to his longevity and his ability both on and crucially off the ball, which, when he was at his peak, wasn’t recognized as much due to his mind boggling play when he had the ball at his feet, all round master

Modric is the best midfielder I've ever seen. I think he's at the top and it's not really close. So much better than Iniesta in multiple facets of his game.

His defensive work was always underrated. Literally the perfect midfielder.
