Give Modric 2 more seasons! Fully deserves it. Luxury player to have any way you look at it...as a starter or bench option....and for mentoring the crop of young midfielders we have...Fede...Odegaard...even Kubo.

    My favourite midfielder since Zidane.

His contract is until 2021, extend him by 1 more season.
Next season is going to be 5 subs off the bench again and Modrić is such a luxury in that situation.
And like he showed in the last few games he can hold his own even when he starts.

Bring back Odegaard and Kubo asap and let them study under:
Modric - Technique, outside the boot pass, dribbling
Kroos - Passing, crossing, keeping a cold head
Casemiro - Defending, closing down spaces, not getting red carded haha

Luka was vintage Luka in the first half. What a great career and person. Gives everything for club and country. Going to really miss watching Luka play when he retires.

Modric must stay, 5 subs mean he'll have plenty of time to play/rest.

A great (although tooooo long) interview with Luka Modric. It's always nice to hear the players talking about how they dealt with not being the starter. He says that he lost his first game in February and that the critics have not been fair to him this season because they were more focused on his age rather than his performance on the field.

I read it in Croatian but this is in English.

Has Odegaard confirmed he is returning or staying out on loan. With respect to Luka and I love him, could this year's form be his last hurrah in top form?

I think a rested Modric can still be among the world's best. Just rotate him

Sport/MD have so many RM covers for a Catalan Daily. All are frustrated voyeur type covers though. [emoji23] Only a footnote when RM wins CL after hyping and rooting for the opponent on the cover of final matchday. At least AS/Marca have Barca on the cover when they win CL/Liga unlike Madriditis from MD/Barca.

Remember how Tata Martino moaned RM were unethical to spend 100 ME on a player when Neymar sctually cost more. That shady deal got exposed and Rosell had to resign. No one can pretend fake morality as well as Barca and their media cronies.

[Arancha Rodríguez] Luka Modric: "I would like to stay at Real Madrid. I think I still have football to continue here, but it depends on what the coach and the club wants. My desire is to finish my career at Real Madrid, but I don't want to be a burden. I feel at home here.

Modric: "Zizou is a top manager. What he has done with us these years is unrepeatable. It gives me the feeling that people do not appreciate him as a coach, he is always questioned. The way he fits us is like a glove. He is ideal for Real Madrid. Zidane could be like Ferguson or Wenger in England.”

Need to take heart out of this decision, it's time to inject new blood into this midfield.

If he was willing to take a backup role, would you renew? I think I would give him an additional year as a backup option. Especially if he is going to retire at the end of the contract.

If he's expecting to start the majority of games then it would be best to find somewhere else to play.

Even as a backup we have Fede, Odegaard and possibly Ceballos/Kubo next year for that one spot.

I was fine with him running down his contract or wanting to leave for free like James and Bale but I wouldn't be making any further commitments.

And I just don't see how you keep a no.10 former BdO winner as a third choice and I dont see how you keep a 35 y/o player fit with only a couple of appearances each month.

I wouldn’t. He earns a significant wage. As much as we all love him it’s time we moved on. And like he said he doesn’t want to be a burden. Class guy. How could we ask anything more from a player. He even makes his departure easy on us. He should receive a guard of honor when he plays the last game this season.

This guy is an all time great on and off the pitch. Just so much class in any way you look at him.

I'd hope he'd be sacrificing some of his wage too if he intends to extend.

i'd get rid of sub Isco and his wages and keep sub Luka for one more season, even at 34 he's a better player, and yes i get that Luka may earn more although i don't know for sure
