So, imagine a starting lineup like this: There's only two players I listed who are not playing with a national team already... Brittany Cameron and Beverly Goebel. We've also got these NWSL players on the bench: Amy Rodriguez - F Renae Cuéllar - F Courtney Jones - F Veronica Perez - F Danesha Adams - M/F Teresa Noyola - M/F Angie Kerr - M Ashley Nick - M McCall Zerboni - M Jenny Ruiz - D/M Mariah Nogueira - D/M CoCo Goodson - D Lauren Barnes - D Bianca Henninger - G (Yeah, I'm bored and there's been no soccer news for days!)
That's actually a pretty cool thread. I haven't anything to add, but have thought similar things about what a California Republic league system would look like, both on the men's side and women's. Right on, Kerr and Buehler!
Well if you know any (professional) players that I missed, feel free to mention them or if you have any preferred starters. I really just went through the NWSL rosters and then added Press and Riley who I know are from here. There are a couple other players born here, but who were raised in other states, so I didn't include them (none of them would be starters, though) I think it'd be cool if just like Catalonia, California played some friendlies with other countries. I'd bet we'd give teams in the top 5 a run for their money.
wonder why everybody keeps insisting that Press play forward when she's all ready carved a name for herself as Sermanni's AM? With Goebel &Hagen added to the US camp and now even A-Rod making a comeback, that forward spot is going to get very crowded!
Yeah, as a 10 minute sub. then, he comes on camera and calls her a predatory striker. that's a bit of double talk in my book. i'd keep riley on the back-line since she is horrible going forward, no dunn or kreiger in that department.
Because she is a forward. That's where she plays for her club team. And on this California team, she doesn't have Wambach and Leroux ahead of her in the depth chart. This is the mythical California team. What happens in the US camp does not apply.
I don't think she's bad going forward at all. If there were a better option, I wouldn't hesitate to replace Robinson with her. Maybe in a few years if/when she's played professionally, Courtnall could play there. But for now what Californian is better?
the Rest of the USA team will look like this; ..............Leroux............................Hagen Halliday........Tymrak...........Heath.........Lloyd Klingenberg...Rampone......Sauerbrunn....Dunn ....................................Solo.................................. since Morgan is currently indeposed , don't despair, we'll give you Wambach!
I'd say that California team would be ranked #3 in the world (behind Germany at #1, and non-Cali USA at #2). In fact, if you broke up the USA into four soccer nations: 1.) California 2.) Western Half (excluding California, but includes Texas) 3.) ACC & SEC region (including Florida) 4.) Northeast (New York, New Jersey) & Big Ten states (aka traditional Civil War North Territory) I'd say that each would be ranked in the FIFA Top 10 rankings ......... 1.) Germany 2.) California USA Republic 3.) Japan 4.) Northeast USA (New York, New Jersey) & Big Ten States of Divided America 5.) Brazil 6.) France 7.) Sweden 8.) ACC & SEC region of America (including Florida) 9.) Canada 10.) Western Half USA People's Republic (excluding California, but includes Texas) All four USA teams would still be ranked in the FIFA Top 10. Conclusion: Imagine if Brazil, France, Sweden, and Canada, all merged and formed one women's soccer nation. Realistically, that's the type of volume of depth and talent that the U.S. brings to the table.
Did you not notice we have A-Rod on the bench? We've already got 3 US national team forwards. Plus, Leroux (who went to UCLA and still lives here in the off-season) has more connection to California than Wambach so if we were gonna take one... (But really neither one would qualify for California citizenship as neither were born here and as far as I can tell neither have parents who were born here)
It would be interesting if someone could put together an all Texas team. That would also help give an idea of some of the players Houston may go after.
Current NWSL players from Texas: Jazmyne Avant - D Melissa Henderson - F Kathryn Williamson - D Nikki Washington - M/F Sarah Huffman (born in CT, but raised in TX) - M Kerri Hanks - F Kelly Schmedes - F So, not enough to form a team. There are some Texans who were called in to the U-23 and U-20 camps though. Edit: Texans from the U-23 and U-20 pools: Abby Smith - G Morgan Stearns - G Claire Wheatley - G Natasha Anasi - D Chioma Ubogagu - F
Unless I accidentally missed someone, yes. I made a complete list of all NWSL players and where they are from when doing the California team.
Just remembered another Californian who plays internationally to add to the depth chart: Karen Bardsley. Not sure if she'd start over Cameron, though.
That's still shocking that there are so few of them from such a big BBQ eating state. Amanda Frisbie is also from Texas. As of a few months from now, she'll be in NWSL, and good enough to be on the all-Texas team. That team can have their daily practice, and then take on some ribs later on for dinner.
The one on the far right looks like a future Washington Huskies kit for the year 2017. Just add the "W" logo for the Washington Huskies on it (and Pac-12 logo), and you're good to go.
Do the Huskies wear gold and blue? Don't they wear purple? I thought it looked looked rather like a UCLA uniform. Like these colors: Just so you're aware, this shows the difference between the blue from that kit and purple:
Yeah, it came out as somewhat of a blueish-purple type color on my computer. Maybe I should adjust the color settings.
So if I change the blue in the far right one to the darker navy or the lighter it'll look like this: I also tried mixing the light and dark a little for this: And if I change the "Vegas Gold" to the "Bright Gold" they look like this: The one with the navy blue feels a lot like Cal (UC Berkley, not the state) to me.
