Personally, I would like to see BA say the following: "You know I kind of dogged on Clint Mathis during the World Cup run because he wasn't 100% fit and I thought that he was not living up to his full potential. Well, this Clint Mathis mirrors the one that we had early in the qualification process. He has his fitness back and his explosiveness for the first time since his injury. He will be starting at a-mid tomorrow behind Donovan and McBride." I don't know if the above is true (ie. Mathis' current form is exceptional), but I do know that if the US could have one major positive prior to beginning world cup qualifying, I would think that I would want this to be it. I mean, we know what we are going to get out of Reyna. We know what we are going to get out of McBride. We know what we are going to get out of our goalkeeping. We know what Pope and/or Donovan and/or Bocanegra all bring. IF Arena is happy with Mathis it could be a sign of good things in the future.
I'm with ya Htown. I've been hoping Mathis would be surrounded by top level competition for 2 years now. I hope his recent success even lights a fire under our beloved LD. Nothing like success to stimulate good competition among our nats. I say the bar has been raised if Clint continues his current form. I'm very happy for him and the national team. Bruce will have to play him if he keeps playing like this. If he doesn't, it will begin to look like there is something personal between them. Based upon some of the comments Bruce indirectly made about LD, maybe Clint has earned some points with Bruce. My 2 cents. E Diddy
