Well, someone in the other thread suggested that a thread be started in order for folks to discuss ideas and suggestions on what we can do to fight this effort to buy the Crew and move them to Vegas. I am not the most creative guy, but I will offer as much time and energy as humanly possible to fight this and keep our boys here, where they belong.

One idea that I have, which might be out there, but what if we tried to organize some grassroots effort to buy a stake in the team ourselves, as fans? I know that we probably could not ever get enough $$ raised to buy the team, but if we could get some really SERIOUS people together, maybe we could collectively approach someone else local with some big bucks to buy the team with us as a minority interest. Something like Green Bay has, where the team actually belongs to the city. They did something like that for that website where a bunch of people chipped in and bought a low level English soccer team, and they are also doing it in Italy now. Its a strech, believe me I now, but maybe we might be surprised at the support that might turn up. What do you all think? What other ideas are out there?

The stadium is alittle outdated. First time Fans come and see bleachers instead of seats. Its a turn off in a big way coming from other american sports. Selling is great this owner sucks. But you need a owner with good ambitions. I would like to see a new stadium plan. I think attractive football stadiums will make people want to come even if they dont really like soccer. Fan support is good for the crew this season. Next year maybe another DP will seal the deal. Given that Schelloto is a soccer God

    A. I dont know what you are doing in this thread
    B. The fact there are so few SSS I dont see ours being outdated as the problem
    C. Another DP? When did we get the first?

Something else that I just thought of too. Most of us who have been to a few games this season have seen how we just seem to have something special this year. Even the players seem to feel it, as they seem to have a great deal of enthusiasm and excitment about what is going on with this team this year. Maybe we can actually enlist some of the players themselves in some way. I can't see a guy like Frankie or Ale just shrugging and saying "whatever" about this. This city, this club, these fans, have become home for a lot of these guys, and we should try to include them in any effort to keep the team here. Do some of you on here have direct access to some of the players?

    A. who are you to tell where people can go. And this is why your fan support is not blooming. Your to busy pushing people away
    B. I said coming up with a plan so in 5-10 years a move would help.
    C. Didnt know the Boca Legend was being paid by arbitration money until now. So why dont you calm down

How about everyone take a chill pill and just wait for some more information to be divulged before spewing out speculation and heresay.... the amount of panic created over one article is crazy.[IMG]

I understand what you are saying, I really do. But I guess my thought is simply this: what can it hurt to start putting together some ideas and trying to come up with a plan to fight a POTENTIAL theat to the future of this team? I hope that you are 100% correct and that this all turns out to be a bunch of BS. If that ends up being the case, then no big deal. If, however, this is true, than the quicker we can organize something, the greater our chances of success. What's the harm in getting the ball rolling?

    1. We NEED to get a group of people together, send out a press release to all the news outlets, and make a scene. An organized scene, but a scene nonetheless.

    2. Maybe we take up a collection to rent some billboard space? Something on I-71 near the stadium.

    3. A website for people to get more info on what's going down, once it becomes clear?

Action is the word my friends.

There is nothing to do except ride the wave and see where it ends up. Protesting is also a great option

Please note, he did not deny there were conversations, only that the sides weren't close to a deal...(and I'll add) yet.

Combined with HHM's conversation with Deep Throat, there's a legit threat to soccer in Columbus.

Or, stick your head in the sand.

I agree COMPLETELY. I am pretty fired up about all this, assuming its true. I want to do my part to help out in any effort that we get started. I want to this ownership group to see how passionate and rabid the Columbus Crew fanbase is, and I want our message to them to be LOUD and CLEAR as to where they can stick their Vegas idea!

That is the seperates you from the Crew fans who are trying to do something.

I think getting to the news outlets is a good idea. Also depending on the what comes out in the next few days maybe some sort of signage or staged event at the game saturday.

Well before I can get into an intimate discussion on the issue. Im not quite sure your view of the current ownership. Before you hated them. But it seems now you like them. So feel free to enlighten me.

Any signage or "staged" event needs to be ntoed by the media, and thus, have a press release. Sorry to harp on that, but as a former member of the media, you won't get noticed without one, and if you do, the point will be lost.

If you send out a release on Thursday saying "we are doing this and this in direct response to this..." it will give them better time to be on the look out for what you're doing.

That makes sense. I mean I personally will be at my own game this weekend so I dont know how involved I can get into doing any of that stuff. Another idea would be to do some sort of passing out of flyers before the game as people walked in or at youth soccer matches around the columbus area.

Not to be a smartass, but somebody needs to get on the Aston Villa website and see if we can come up with some contact info for Friedel. I'm curious if he knows the franchise he's partnered with is in the process of relocating (yes, I know nobody has said we're relocating, so the 3 of you who don't believe don't have to quote my post and correct me).

In the other thread, I said this was starting to look familiar. Now it definitely is.

"Everyone relax, Clay Bennett promised Howard Schulz the Sonics won't leave!"

I hear Vegas is actually a pretty neat place.

People like money. Especially people who have money. Show them they can make more money staying put, and they'll stay put. Instead of spending $X on billboards or advertising campaigns, pay for some extra tickets and bring friends on your dime. Let's get attendance up. I, reading this, plan on increasing my personal attendance numbers 200% this year, and 300% next year.

But if someone wants a team, and the expansion slots are all but spoken for, the only option left is to cash up for an existing team. As our owners are looking to sell, sucks for us. The precident is there, and it's worked out for Houston.

Here's my concern - based on the recent Forbes article, we'd have to get attendance up near capacity at every single game, and even then I don't think we'd break even.

Luxury boxes and non-soccer events and so on move cash for franchises...or building a stadium with an attached casino.
