This guy is an embarrassment. For him to think scoring for England against Albania is him shutting up the critics just shows what a small minded twat he is. United is too big for him.
Harry Maguire: "It [celebration vs Albania] wasn't directed at no one. It was a knee slide, I obviously put my hands on my ears. I'm #mufc captain, of course I'm going to get criticism when the team isn't doing well — but of course it's not directed at no one." #mulive [mail]— utdreport (@utdreport) November 13, 2021 Honestly can understand him celebrating, that is some (much needed from his perspective) relief and joy on the back of the rotten run he's been on with United. His gesture, as he knee slided, simply was not the most judicious one. Eventhough I'm no fan of the guy, but if this intl break is a catalyst towards him regaining some measure of form, then it's only good for us, I suppose. He is one of Ole's guys after all, he will be picked no matter what and that's not going to change as long as he's at the helm. It's well known that he can play much better than what we've seen from him lately and that is required from him at minimum with United...
Harry Maguire is not capable of playing CB at an elite level, or anywhere close to it. He has never shown any of the requisite skills or IQ required. He is slow physically, he's slow to react mentally, his positional sense is off, he cannot anticipate, he cannot pass consistently, he is a poor communicator, he is poor from set pieces, he's an average tackler. This is a guy who cost £80m and has provided nothing beyond a £20m value. He's been with us for long enough now. He's not a good player.
you say that but there are still people defending him as if he offers any semblance of promise of being able to perform at this level
Not claiming to be the first one with these comments. They're more in response to the media consistently letting him off the hook.
If there was any proof needed that intl play is nowhere what it used to be... Most goals for England from centre-back:◉ Harry Maguire (7)◎ John Terry (6)The Three Lions' highest scoring defender. 🔥 https://t.co/BH5XntArZ8— Squawka (@Squawka) November 15, 2021 If only he could make better use of that size of his with United.
Fabio Cannavaro: "[John] Stones and [Harry] Maguire have shown interesting things in recent years. They can both play football, defend and fear no one. They are good individually and with the rest of the [England] backline." #mulive [@TheSunFootball]— utdreport (@utdreport) November 18, 2021 Fabio Cannavaro: "They are points of reference for Manchester City and #mufc — and undoubtedly the two best English defenders. When the going gets tough, they take responsibility and are not afraid of trying new things." #mulive [@TheSunFootball] https://t.co/iZryMj8KiT— utdreport (@utdreport) November 18, 2021 Fabio Cannavaro: "Good players like [Harry] Maguire will always be worth a lot and we should not be astonished when top clubs invest that amount on talented players. In Italy, we say that great strikers sell tickets but great defenders win matches." #mulive [@TheSunFootball]— utdreport (@utdreport) November 18, 2021 Interesting comments from Cannavaro. There is some measure of truth in them, even if the one regarding his valuation is one I fundamentally disagree with. Maguire was eventually worth a world record fee because United were stupid/fell head first into the trap and the fact that he is English. 50, 60mil perhaps at a push should have been his max valuation. And at that price, there were far better options out there for us in my estimation (in terms of the type of CB we could/should have gone for).
When you look at the penalty he scored for England in the Euro 2021 final, there's more to him than meets the eye. I do think he's a player who will get better with time (he's not too far away from the kind of defender Steve Bruce was TBT), but there is question as to whether he can be afforded that at United. There's only so much patience he can be afforded and it's running thin right now. Where my patience is running thin: 1) Balls played in behind him are a big problem. More often than not he's hoping for the ball to go out of play. It doesn't help he has almost no turn of pace, but with the right partner and if he's playing smarter that can be worked out. 2) For him to be captain, he has to help instill some of the discipline lacking in this team. When players aren't doing their jobs or not giving it their all, he's not saying enough. I think that partly comes down to his own failings. He can't hold other accountable if he's not delivering.
Oh GNev hush now pls... Gary Neville: "Harry Maguire is the future of the club along with some others so I have no doubts about him. He is just going through a two or three year mad period like I did. It emotionally drains you. Only three weeks off every summer." #mulive [@Ian_Ladyman_DM]— utdreport (@utdreport) November 20, 2021 Joked not long ago that GNev's head is gone but one legitimately has to wonder at this point. Don't care if CBs possibly have a longer shelf life, a guy who is 28 is not the future. Going thru the same (ludicrous) lengths he vigorously went when defending Ole.
can't wait to hear about his England performances again and how clean sheets v Andorra mean he's good enough...
He better lose the Captaincy. Never deserved it in the first place. Give it to the physio at this point.
If there's ever been a player that lacks the United DNA and mentality, it's Harry. The fact that he's captain is just insulting.
If anyone is the locker room guys quit in Ole, it was this guy. What’s that saying? He’s been playing like he won a talk show competition to play for United. But I’m sure all the headlines coming will be about Ronaldo rallying the lads to turn on the gaffer.
Shame it was not a straight red though. Not even being facetious here but 3gms out is what he really needed, as opposed to just the one. Not ready to see a half fit Mag back vs Arsenal.
Saw few post on SM that he went out partying after Watford game ? If its true he should be sacked as well.
Has been Harry MaDire this season. Understand why way back then he was given captaincy, but ever since Bruno turned up he (Bruno) has been far more of a captain already. Doubt the interim(s?) will have the bottle / authority to change captains, but really should. If is left until end of the season and new manager, hopefully change then. Also maybe we get a quality CDM with captain / vice-captain qualities and Mag can focus on his own form.
