Yes. DiMaria was a little rat, but he didn’t want to be here and was pretty open about it. And while he was shit for us, LvG put him in some weird roles that didn’t really make sense. Maguire has been terrible for us outside of the first year, has never taken responsibility for any of his form or our results, refuses to leave, and will throw any and everyone under the bus to stay here.
To be fair to Rome, he never whined like this to the Press. Of course a foreign black player was never gonna get the same level of attention and sympathy.
https://www.skysports.com/football/...guardiola-harry-maguire-and-cristiano-ronaldo like the last couple managers he says the 'correct' thing in the press but does the ruthless thing anyway. at least so it appears so far. Southgate is the one helping him dig his own grave at the moment. he's been treated better than most defenders out of their depth in general. once found out they're usually sold after 1 season and they don't have this many folks advocating for them
Somehow, in a way no one can explain. He has reached the rarified air of Beckham and the like. The press are firmly on his side.
I do but just shocked it applied to Maguire. Kane I get is untouchable but Maguire? Like Stones has won EPL titles recently and yet he is not considered off limits like Maguire.
Press builds people up and tears them down all the time. Becks after 1998 WC suffered a lot of abuse in the press and he never deserved it. It was a preposterous red. He's not the only one. Gazza went through a lot too, maybe more than any other player I can remember and they just wouldn't leave him alone. Today Maguire is offred some protection from what few allies he has (IMO Man U and England brass), tomorrow he could be the biggest villain in English football. That's what they're like. I don't know where Maguire will be playing after January. It doesn't look as if his future is here anymore, especially since it now looks like Lindelof is preferred over him.
I think Nottingham is likely his next destination. He would be a better fit for them and the chance to play again with Deano would serve his game better. Nothing he can do about mobility, but the way he attacks the ball in the air must improve. The rest is easy so long as he can keep his focus and concentrate. It's not impossible for him.
Feels like a caption competition; “The only thing to fear is your defending on the halfway line” would be my entry Or maybe “The only thing to fear is your continued selection for England” … The only thing to fear is fear itself. #fearless @puma @pumafootball pic.twitter.com/epjWXYNgW2— Harry Maguire (@HarryMaguire93) October 14, 2022
Just when I thought there could not be a more unpredictable United-related story...... https://t.co/HMQBW8iSAr— Samuel Luckhurst (@samuelluckhurst) December 1, 2022
Not sure I agree with those who said Maguire had a good game - his positioning & decision making back to his usual. Against better oppo … Maguire in his first match in the starting lineup and he's producing shit. This guy needs to leave ASAP. pic.twitter.com/CLjQNqOCBY— Mohammad Alsayad 🇵🇸 🔰🇾🇪 (@MohammadAlsaya5) January 4, 2023
After the snub for Shaw at CB, and the illness that saw him miss games (not something I think would have stopped him in the past), the plan is to move him on this January if there is a taker. Whatever chances he has left are coming at a premium now.
Varane announced his international retirement today at only 29. Guess France have a lot of young CBs on the rise. Means we've got him all to ourselves, I actually really like this, he's clearly injury prone so to have him having fewer games and fewer chances to break himself is a positive in my eyes.
