From the Official Liverpool site... Ian Rush is hoping his vast experience in football will rub off on Liverpool's strikers as he looks forward to starting his new coaching role at Anfield. Rush was at Melwood earlier this morning to be formally introduced to the Anfield staff after agreeing to take on a part time coaching role at the club working specifically with the strikers. And Rush can't wait to get onto the training pitch and help Owen, Heskey, Baros, Diouf and Mellor all find the back of the net on a more prolific basis. Rush said: "I'm really looking forward to this challenge and I feel as though I have a lot to offer. "I've got my coaching badges and I think I can help the young strikers we have here because I have a great deal of experience. "My job here will just be to look after the strikers in training. I'm not a defensive coach or a midfield coach, I'll just be working on different things with the front lads. "If I can help them develop as players and bring something extra to their game then I will be more than happy."
What kind of player was Ian Rush? I understand he was a very successful striker at Liverpool but I was wondering how he played because I never saw him play.
I think he was more of a target man, but I was only able to see him play 2 or 3 times (most is from memory about reading about Rush). In anycase, from what I saw, he had an incredable knack at finding goal.
No he wasn't a target man. Physically he wasn't that type of player. Most of the time he fed off the service given to him by dalglish who was the ultimate foward-playmaker. In tandem they were unstoppable. Rush was very very fast, but was also an incredible finisher. A much unsung part of his game was how he harried opposing defenders stopping them from playing it out of the back. He would literally run from full back to full back if they passed it square across the back and force them to hoof it forward. He had a knack for goal that you can't teach, he had natural speed and he wasn't even selfish. During one dry spell Paisley told him to be more selfish and his goals started up again.
I haven't seen Ian Rush play, only seen him on a couple of old Liverpool tapes. What does everyone think of him coming back to Liverpool in a coaching role?
He can only help. His greatest asset - that deadly nose for goal - is only prevalent in Owen, and even he goes through spells where he tries to pass it in the net. Baros is close to having it, but he needs to be smarter. Dave
I was a young 'un when I watched him play so I don't remember much but he had a way of being in the right place at the righ time, a handy asset for a striker. I saw him on a highlight video where he took the ball almost the entire length of the field - against Everton, I think it was. Though my fondest memory of Rush was in the 1989 FA Cup final where he scored two goals in extra time.
The only thing I've seen from Ian Rush was one little knock down header I believe. It was in Fowler's "fastest ever Premiership hattrick". I recall the announcer, "Rush . . . . FOWLER!" As you can see, I know little about him. Thanks for filling me in.
BTW, I was wondering if anyone could perhaps tell me of a site to view Fowler, Rush, or Dalglish goals? I'm interested to see some clips of them. Also, any Liverpool videos that can be ordered from Eurosport or some other catalog that you guys would recommend? Thanks.

Luckily, I can get past the region coding and the PAL/NTSC issue by hooking my laptop up to the TV and hacking the software so it's region free. Does this require the newest windows media player? Because I'm on an old crappy comp and only have windows 95 and it takes at least 98 to download the latest version. WMP 7 I belive.
Yes it does. I got around that here by screaming to our IT guy that I needed Windows 98 because I couldn't do my job properly with a six-year old operating system. Shortly after he installed it I went to the LFC site. Next project: Convincing them that a DVD drive is essential to my work...

Nose...!!! You had to say it. "Nose for goal" "Follow your nose" even "Put a boot on it" I'll have you know that women think nose size is related to other body part sizes, and is a sign of virility. It never stopped me scoring 200= goals for the reds...!!! Ian.
