jmeissen0 tells me it was on the latest MLS Confidential, that right? You know, I can never fully trust a F*re fan...
sorry bailey it's true... i would have sent you a copy when you asked, but i tend to delete them right after i read them someone will come along and give a quote from the email
Too bad. I guess JoeW's boy really wasn't that great a professional after all. SA said he couldn't beat Denton or Torres at LB. Must not be very good at all if he can't beat Torres at LB.
If he couldn't hold a spot in the Scottish 2nd, he was a real long shot here. Besides, we're deep at defenders with better experience.
Quote from MLS Confidential: 2. CREW NEWS: Columbus has waived defender Ian Joy, 22, who had been claimed in the supplemental draft Feb. 28. He was tested at left back but couldn't beat out Eric Denton and Daniel Torres. Midfielder Omar Belbey, 29, started Monday in a 2-2 tie with the MetroStars. He's played in France with Montpellier, Nimes and Rouen (his birthplace) and played for Algeria in the 2002 African Nations Cup.
Damn, that was a really short stay with the team. Was there somebody else in the supplemental draft that would have been a better pick?
IIRC there were only three players picked TOTAL in the supplemental draft. Only players that somebody was interested in signing were involved. The "draft" itself was just an MLS formality used to let three teams pick up some guys they wanted to look at. Sorry I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think the other guys were Ching and Yallow. So to the gist of your question, the answer is no, nobody blew it here. Just a fancy way of giving these guys a trial.
Man, I thought Joy was a stone-cold lock to make the squad. He played overseas, so by default he's better than anybody on the roster who hasn't. I guess our drunks sacked up and overcame Joy's professionalism.
Omar Belbey? He's French... wait he's Algerian... Well, after all of this, we can say for certain that he isn't Omar Elbey!!
I don't know what you're talking about, he was obviously demanding too much in salary as that's the only conceivable way he wouldn't make the squad. Has he been called up yet? Afterall, he does have Europe on his resume...
Not sure what his salary was but I am pretty sure he has or had signed a contract with MLS so the salary figure was well know( by the right people). Perhaps he just didn't beat out the other players---in spite of many detractors I think the MLS is getting sronger and just because you have Europe on your resume doesn't give you a guarantee in the MLS
I was just told Lucci was waived? I can't access the Crew page cause of graphics.... Broccoli Dolores
