OK, I am hesitant to post this, but saw the link on the Rumors feature on MLS.net. Looks like Stern John is talking about coming to MLS, again. I know we came close a couple years back, and he hurt his knee. Worth a look? Got to be better than Jeff? Right? Or, are more like: "You've got to be kidding me!" http://www.trinidadexpress.com/sports/I_left_on_my_own-134803588.html So, are you hoping we are one of the teams that has supposedly expressed interest?
No offseason is complete without a Stern John discussion. Homeland Security has raised the speculation level from Green to Yellow.
He trained with the team occasionally a couple years ago and he wasn't good enough. I can't imagine he could really help us.

Yeah forget him. We've got Justin Meram and Tommy Hinnyman. I love how other teams bring on more defenders because they fear our attack. The mere threat of having those two on the field together makes everyone tremble. As long as stern john can run faster than cunningham did last season, im all for it. We know the FO will take their sweet a$$ time finding new players. So by late june we'll suck so bad we'll have wished we had someone like stern john on our team. At this point he's better than most of our other players save renteria.
Hate to say it, but this is the way I lean. I don't have confidence in the FO to bring in top notch players (look at other teams go while we sit, KC, SJ, AEF telling Houston to go bit, etc). I don't really see much from Meram or the @ssman. And Renteria is hurt so often, I think we need other forward options, more so with Viva gone. Maybe he could even teach Tommy a thing or two. Got to be dependent on how much he costs. Yes, I know it's been a while, but it is just hard for me to believe that Stern John, even at his advanced age, is not a better player than Tom Heinemann or Justin Meram. Maybe I have to see it to believe it.
I seem to remember that there was another former Crew striker people were trying to get back to Columbus for years, and it finally happened. It was such a raving success the first time, why not again?
My thoughts exactly. Whatever Stern John had left in the tank is now gone. He has trained with us a couple years ago after coming back from injuries and we never saw enough to sign him, so I have no idea why we'd want him now. He'll probably end up at a USL squad. Is Bright Dike available? I saw some Sergio Herrera jerseys at the gear sale- that's gotta be a cheap signing. Or are we still holding out for Drogba, Del Piero, Tevez, or Palermo?
