Close, he was from West Virginia, and got $110 million. The pot was $390 million. EDIT: "Only" $110 million
I would use the remaining 10 mil and buy into a fund like, say, adriatic fund, and turn it into $128.56 in no time.
Lottery winnings are taxed at an individual's "ordinary income" tax rate. The 2002 tax rate for such winnings would have been 38.6%, while the rate in 2003 (anyone heard anything in the news lately about "tax cuts"?) is declined to 35%. So if you were to win a $100 million lotto, you would keep $65 million. The West Virginia situation referenced earlier can be explained by the lottery being advertised as a $390 million lottery -- which is the amount that an individual would receive if they were to receive equal payments over something like 30 years. In most cases, however, the individual has the option of receiving a lump sum payment all at once (usually the best option, financially speaking). If the person received $110,000,000 after taxes, then the award was actually a lump sum of approx. $179.2 million. If, however, the $110 mil was before taxes, he would have actually received about $67.5 million after Uncle Sam got his share. -wch
Exactly. If I won all that money, I'd get a tune up on my car. I don't think I've ever gotten me one of those. Maybe new wiper blades also. I've always wanted a LIRR monthly pass also. That'd be cool.
If I won I'd spend the loose change it would take to buy the New York Power, then I would drop all the players and sign all strippers to play. Then I'd have them play in G-string bikinis. With the other '98 percent I would get a private jet and season tickets to Man. U. and Real Madrid so I could watch Timmy develop and see the dream team in action.
I buy me a new pair of clean underwear then I'd go on Wheel of Fortune and buy a whole 5h*t-load of vowels!
if i won that amount of cash i'd buy a bit of the MLS itself (say 1 percent) then use the rest to buy a 3 hour prime time TV Slot on a good network for 2 seasons for a show dedicated to the MLS, every team benifits from the increased interest.
