No, it's what AC Milan's jersey would look like if their jerseys were made by Nike. Plain and simple. The adidas actually look different, especially with the stripes on the shoulders, plus the adidas shorts are much nicer. We are probably going to get black shorts, with a line of gold. The same ones that the US national team has.
I agree that this is probably be nicest Metros jersey yet. Being a DC United fan though, I'd prefer if you guys emphasized the red more and eased up on the black. -Tron
i thinks its nice, but i would have liked it to have been available for christmas as it would have been a good idea for a gift. and yes i know they say try giving that to a kid. nephew says "wow, it looks great on this peice of paper, i can't wait to get it in four months." whats a 'great holiday goft idea'?
I voted no because I'm a Revs fan, I hate the Metros, I hate their craphola new jersey, and I hate YOU!
The jersey's pretty sweet. It seems to me most of the people saying otherwise are just trying to act contrarian so they can seem cool.
I was pretty pissed cause i'm working 7 days a week and i have a nasty cold... but this made me laugh. Stupid people are funny.
personally, i think that jersey looks good. when i first saw it and the crest i was like, "woah, that's sick!". i mean, let's be honest here, the only jerseys that look good in MLS are Fire, United, Crew, and now Metrostars. actually, i thought Metros jerseys last year looked good, but the shorts sucked. any of those four teams would not be an embarassment to show off against european competition (from a purely fashion standpoint, of course). yeah, this jersey does have a european flair to it, and, honestly, that's why i like it. i think it captures a traditional look, while still looking sleek and modern. the crest looks more soccer traditional too. now if they can just fix the galaxy and colorado crests & jerseys.
It looks great, but when are Metro gonna realize that some of us are in the XXL and XXXL range? This complaint applies to most of their merch, incidentally.
I like the new logo but then again I was OK with the old one (sorta just got used to it). If this is the new logo, I just hope they stick with it. Maybe someone from the MFO who has a degree in heraldry can explain the significance of the new crest. Personally, I like the star because that is an easy component to work with for banners and the like (in fact some fans have been doing that for years already). I like the current shirt the best so far and better than the new one. The new one isn't horrible exactly but I doubt I will rush out and buy one. In some ways, with Nike calling the shots, it could have been one whole helluva lot worse. The scarf is nice and is a big improvement over the old black one.
From metrostars.com: "To convey the sport's tradition, the MetroStars wanted the new logo to be shaped in the much more soccer-traditional crest, and opted for a three-sided crest to symbolize the team's roots in the tri-state (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) area." Does that count as "heraldry"? Personally, I liked the wide stripes of the now old jerseys too, because I think it was more unique. But the new ones do look sharp. I just hope the "MetroStars" on the front is smaller, the way it appears in the sketch. I do think they could have done a bit better with the shield, but it is definitely an improvement.
Sponser Will there be a sponser on the jersey this time? They had New York Life during 2000-2001, but this year they didn't have one. I think the jersey looks cool. I just wish that Nike didn't have the same design for every single team. Inter, AEK Athens all have the same design. The wider stripes aren't too unique. Barcelona and Porto had the same stripe style as well.
