It means nothing at all. Man Utd will not be the dominant force in England for the foreseeable future. And i fooking love it. Sounded abit like Keegan there, but never mind. Which means, that they wont automatically qualify for the CL. So being top scorers means nowt.

No, it doesn't. Which is why people have ignored it. You see (and this thread may just be the unfortunate consequence of misinformation you've been fed, so I'm pleased to be able to set you straight) the European Cup is actually a competition to see which team wins the most games including one, at the end, that is commonly known as "The Final". Number of goals scored and conceded only really gains any lasting significance in that last 90 minutes of the competition.

No they don't. Away goals are the tiebreaker. If a team wins its home leg 3-2, then draws away 0-0, they advance. If away goals counted double, then they'd lost 4-3 instead of winning 3-2.

Sorry, that was an insufferably snarky response. I should be serious. Away goals "counting double" of course only comes into play in the event that a two-legged home and away tie ends equal in terms of goals scored (e.g. Team A wins 2-1 at home and then Team B wins 1-0 at home ). In that instance, Team B, the team that scored the away goal (2-1) advances.

Or you could use the 5 word response: Away goals are the tiebreaker.

    :D

So you appreciate the fact that ManUtd were the last english team to win the Champions league final /// I can here you saying " but but Munich should have won ManUtd were lucky " Ha ha you cant have it both ways.
And chelsea getting to the Semi Finals last year was no achievement at all, because they didnt get to " The last 90 minutes of the Competition" your words not mine mate !!!!

Yes, I appreciate that. It being empirical fact and all that, there'd be little or no value in my not appreciating it. Rather like trying to pretend Oxygen is not important to me.

Ermm .... no. Not my words, your (oddly incoherent) words. I didn't even use the word "achievement". FWIW, getting to the semi-final at only the third time of asking is an achievement of sorts ... if you're Chelsea. But clearly, it is not the same level of achievement as actually getting to the final and, you know, winning the competition.

Glad to be able to spend a few moments every day adding another layer of sophistication to your understanding of these matters. See you tomorrow!

And what about when United crashed out to Leverkusen?

And Man United WERE lucky in that final, Munich scored, and if they hadn't of hit the crossbar 2-0 would've been likely in the second half.

Do you ever get that dawning feeling that everyone's laughing at something, and then realize that something is you?

Well, as the king of cool, of course, that never happens to me.

    Until now. :D
