Up to this point i have been an MLS fan without one team to call myself a fan of. I would like to start rooting for RSL for a couple of reasons. I have recently moved to western WY and RSL is definatley the closest club. Also, I really like a lot of the players. I think Beckerman brings a tremendous workrate, toughness and stability to the middle of the park. I think Findley and Movsisyan are two very exciting strikers. Rimando is a beast. Also is Kipre not on the team this year? I thought he was a very exciting RB to watch last year but didn't notice him on the roster this year. By the way i thought(from what i saw on tv) RSL had some of the best crowd support in the league. Would you all agree? I would like to be apart of an exciting crowd and a young up and coming team.
I have to tell you right off the bat, if you think we have a bandwagon, you're nuts. And since you have to be nuts to follow this team for the past three years, you're in.
It's true - our wagon broke down a couple of seasons ago (due to lack of use). Our requirements for being a supporter are that you must have a pulse and a bad attitude. Wait! On second thought the bad attitude just comes naturally.
It seems like you have all the characteristics of an RSL fan: High hopes that they will do good, Live Close, think highly of us the fans. The only characteristic you might be missing is self-motivation. Because, seeing RSL on the field isn't going to give you any motivation to root them on. Plus, you gotta pay Dave Checketts 2,000 dollars for even conceiving an idea of favoring RSL.
That actually made me laugh, i like it. Seriously though fellas or ladies i do think this team has potential. Also, clearly it's in a good situation with a new SSS being built(a luxury many teams would like to have). Is the fan support at the games as good as it appears on TV? If so i think there is a bright future ahead for the club. If you can be brutal and still draw a decent crowd throughout the summer that has to bode well for future support when the team actually starts winning games. One thing though i am not a big Talley guy which is one thing i don't like about the team. He reminds me of Jesse Marsch. There both solid old CM's but the skill of the game in America has kinda passed them by. And they are both a little too cheesey for me to appreciate.
Kipre is no longer on the team. I am hoping that we won't see Talley on the field too much this year. We have a pretty good fan base and would welcome you in. Just be prepared to have your heart stomped on.
The rep for the crowd here is that it is very vocal and quite knowledgeable. We did have a very uncomfortable situation in an exhibition match against Boca last year, where there supporters were out in force and drowned out our own crowd. It was embarassing! We did see our numbers drop last season, but we still are in the top 3rd from an attendance standpoint I believe. As far as Talley, I think you echo the sentiments of many RSL fans. He works pretty hard and actually seems to have decent awareness on the pitch but his skill level is definitely subpar. It appears he will likely make the starting XI this season. Part of this is probably the fact that are team this year will be very light on MLS experience, and having him on the pitch may fill a needed leadership role. It's easy to underestimate having someone out there who can calm the team down when needed, or motivate the team to pick up the intensity, etc. I'd like to think that Beckerman can fill that role, but we will see.
With the proposed diamond formation I see them grooming Sturgis to fill that role as the defensive mid. Garth's preseason guess Espindola----Findley Morales Beckerman------Cordoba Talley Joy---Mantilla---Olave---Wingert Rimando Depth Beltran, Horst, Sturgis, Mosyivian and A. Williams
It is very important that you know the meaning of the word coined on Big Soccer: Embratsu = Embrace the Suckiness! If you can live Embratsu in your heart, you are an RSL fan at heart.
We have a lot of unproven pieces, and given our past history there are plenty of reasons to have reservations and not get overly optimistic. However, I believe we will make the playoffs this year. I think the team is headed in the right direction. I think Jason and Garth are doing the right thing in their concerted effort to upgrade our international talent. We will have to wait to see how those players work out, and there are bound to be some that don't, but if we get any who are coming here to live on easy street they won't be here long. I think we are definitely at the "potential" stage, but it will be interesting to see how that potential plays out this year. Some of my hope comes from the fact that, while Kreis is very inexperienced, he is very driven and focused and I think that gives us a better chance at working through the numerous problems that are bound to come up. After last year I can't quite bring myself to guarantee it, but I think there is a good chance we will see a playoff game in the new stadium this year. RSL has said they need to do a better job of delivering to their loyal fans. As a loyal fan, that is exactly what I would like to see them deliver. Also, as someone who went to a number of games in Colorado, I really enjoy the crowd support here. Hope to see you at some games.
My goal is realistically to make it to two games as i do live about 5 hours away. I was so excited to make it to the home opener but then i realized it was against Chicago and I hate Chicago more than any other team. Plus i wanted my money and butt and the butts of who i bring to be in the seats in a non-DP game because i don't want to make it seem likes fans are only going to see a DP.
This is another good point. We have a great rivalry going against the Crapids. Those are by far my favorite games to go to.
I second that. If you only have a couple games, try to make it to a Crapids game. Those are fun, cause you get to yell obscenities at Ma*******************stroeni.
Thats assuming he is still on the team this season. Word out of crapid town is they are shopping him around and looking to get rid of him.
Hahaha, my moniker is not indicitive of me or my personality. I had tried for months to get a BS account and it would never send me confirmation so I had one of my friends attempt to make me an account. Needless to say his email address was successfull and this is the name i ended up with. Is there an actual date targeted for the opening of the new SSS? Or is it just "fall" of 2008? Is Rimando going to get the majority of the starts over Seitz? I know Seitz will be away for portions of the summer but what do you get the sense is for when he is in town?
Welcome aboard. If you're crazy enough to want to follow this trainwreck, I say good on ya. The opening date is tentatively in October vs. the Gals. That may change depending on weather, etc. The GK spot is Rimando's job to lose. He's earned it. But if he falls out of form, I don't think Cassar will wait too long to throw Seitz in there. We actually have one of the most enviable GK situations in MLS.
I agree. Watching MLS and RSL last year i personally thought Rimando was GK of the year. He faced so many shots and made so many saves. Maybe his GAA wasn't particularly sweet but that wasn't his fault. GK of the year(in my mind) should be the GK that played that position the best, not who had the better team.
Love your moniker! You must have good friends to get hooked up with sucha good name. Welcome to the bandwagon, although we have neither band nor wagon. We have the Samba Gringa (endless droning drums during the game) and an orange 1993 Dodge van wrapped in a Real wrap. The fans here are great, they are loud and fun. I'll echo the rest and tell you to come to a CRapids game. You'll feel the love...!
No official date yet. Just "fall" at this point. I imagine we'll hear a more firm date sometime this spring.
Actually I think I remember an interview with Trey on AYL a few months ago, and he said that they'll make a final decision on the opening sometime in March.
