What is it with England and 1990s and penalty kicks? Gareth Southgate - Euro '96 semi-final David Batty - World Cup 1998 Round of 16
if u miss a PK ur shiet and what's with players hitting balls along the ground these days with minimal pace.... I've seen so many PK's that are only 2-3 feet over the cneter and rolling along the ground
I do not remember Southgate in 1996. It was Batty's first ever pk in his life. He never even attempted it in practice.
Dennis Bergkamp Arsenal v Man U FA Cup Semi final 99. He absolutely bottled it, United won the treble and he's never taken one since.
------------ When it went to pks after ot? If that was the one what about the one that Franco Barese missed same type of miss at the same time skied over the goal.
I don´t think penalties stopped by the goalkeeper are really penalties missed for the players. So Figo´s one against Juve last wednesday wasn´t at all a bad shot, maybe he could do it better but, yes, Figo has the Real defeate responsability on his shoulders and Buffon has the Juve victory responsability on his shoulders. The worst: Roberto Baggio in USA94 final and Chris Waddle in Italy90.
When a tournament game like the WC has to go to pks to decide the winner how many rounds can it go before a winner is decided if no one can score the winner?
This is by far the worst Penalty shot missed in soccer history. You can't compare all the others mentioned. This was in the World Cup Final, not a qualifying game or other round robin game....THIS WAS THE FINAL. I was in shock that Roberto missed that penalty, he is usually money and very clutch. I dont know if he just broke down and choked or if he was really hurting from his injury at that time??? Something that we will never know!
The thing about Baggio was that Massaro and Baresi had both already missed and even if he had scored Brazil would have probably won. Whether you see Bergkamp's as a great save or not, it was at a nice height for the keeper and set United rolling on the greatest season ever.
Well, I saved the tenth and final PK in the promotion playoff game this winter for Canton United... Okay, okay, it's not quite the World Cup. But hey.
Collectively, Holland's misses, during the game and in the shootout, in the Euro 2000 semi against Italy, which was played in Holland. When Stam (I think) skied it, the look on FR's face was priceless. On the other side, Totti's cheeky kick was cool in context.
You're probably right, though that miss has to be one of the most heartbreaking moments in all of sports.
