Stewart would seem to be the natural choice based on experience. Something to do with expected playing time?

'Donovan, 21, also has seen Adu play. "I think he's a great player at that age, certainly the best I've ever seen at that age. I certainly wasn't very good at 14. I may not be that good now."'

    Starting Lineup

I would go out a slight bit here and suggest that not only will Frankie start at right back versus the Turks but Stewart will be on the bench with Klein on the right flank. If Stewart's in the 11 then he's the captain.

    My 11:

    Howard
    Frankie Berhalter Bocanegra Vanney
    Klein Armas Donovan Beasley
    Kirovski Mathis

    We'll see.

Yes it is surprising...but then I think about it and its not surprising. As Much as I dislike his style of play the guy has got to be considered on of the greats of US Soccer. Its not just anybody who plays well in 2 different World Cups. Its a much deserved reward for someone who is a stalwart of US International Soccer.

"Captain Frankie will getcha' high tonight!"

  10. I'm with you except for calling him one of the "greats". I'd say he's done his time, made a contribution, and if he's gonna be captain once or twice, that's cool.

I'm sorry I just cant voice my support for this. They are going to make him look foolish out there, if they dont I will take all the trolling that I can. Go USA!

Does this mean Frankie is captain for all three games are just the game against Turkey.

    My patience is waning!

Bruce has a lot of respect for Frankie. He has pointed out in the past that Frankie has come to play in the big games - i.e. the last two WC's. I think this is Bruce's way of rewarding Frankie and showing the other guys how much it means to have a great attitude like Frankie and to play your best in the big games.

i think frankie is a team leader and so does the bruce. the guy has played (well may i add) in two world cups and i have never heard anyone domestic say a bad word about the guy, only praise. i cannot count how many times i have heard bruce and usmnt players say what a great attitude and presence he has in camps. maybe the dude is just growing up a little.

i for one wouldn't mind seeing the reggae dance tonight. :)

    Re: Starting Lineup

Along your line of thought, I think Armas isn't going to start either. Chris would probably get the armband ovber Frankie if he was out there.

    How's this...

    Howard
    Frankie Calif Boca Vanney
    Klein Mastro Convey Lewis
    Mathis Donovan

    Like you said, We'll see.

No matter who the US team (with Frankie) plays against, there are two certainties:

    1) Frankie will be the best athlete on the field
    2) Frankie has the biggest balls on the field.

Frankie is a warrior, plain and simple. He may not be the most talented, but if there's anyone I'd want on my side, it's Frankie. This Bud's for you, Frankie.

    Re: Re: Re: Starting Lineup

any particular reason people don't feel we'll see DMB out there? he's played better than Klein so far, IMO.

but I'm glad Frankie's got the armband. reward a hardworker who's got the respect of his teammates. I think it's a good call.

    Klein plays on the right

DMB likes the left side, and Lewis has been tremendous lately--it's a tossup, depends who Arena thinks is better at exploiting the Turks, or he may want to save DMB for Brazil

Beasley and Lewis will split left wing duties,Klein and Stewart on the right,IMO.

Good for Frankie, but I doubt he'll be in all the games(I doubt anyone plays every minute),so at least one other guy will wear the armband.

I think eddie's been awesome these last two games and you have to have him on the field. how effective would it be to have both DMB and Lewis out there?
could beasley be effective on the right?
