I know it might be inappropriate for me to put this in the Arsenal board but in light of the fact that a number of you are sympathetic toward Ajax I wondered if others were feeling more ambivalent now that we're out of the tournament and they are the new darlings of Europe. I didn't watch the matches but I got the impression that Arsenal were unable to get more than a point against Ajax because of the negative tactics employed by Koenman, (who it must be said outsmarted Wenger tactically by employing such a strategy). I know, I know, Arsenal should have been able to capitalize anyway but I can't help feeling like our loss was their gain! I never thought I'd find myself hoping for AC Milan success but To Ajax I give my middle finger!
I don't care about Ajax. We should have beaten them home and away even if they were defensive, we had the chances. We should also have beaten 10 man Roma at home. Our poor finishing also cost us league points on Saturday, you'd be better off worrying about that.
what negative tactics? you losing? b/c we didn't let you play your game? that to me is a sign of a brilliant game plan.
CHEERS FOR AJAX! i hope they bring glory to amsterdam with that young and very talented squad... they are certainly deserving of the title if they can make it through.. they had a brutal draw and the experienced gained can only bring better things for the amsterdamers... go on ajax!!!!!!!!!!! phishy
Ajax dominated Arsenal in the 1st game and should of won, i can't complain about a draw in the 2nd game. i like Arsenal but you should not be bitter cuz they sucked in Europe again. Ajax goes through to semis with 0-0 at home at 1-1 away is my guess.
Here are the stats from that game. I don't know that anyone dominated, but if one team did it sure as hell wasn't Ajax. And if they have success in this round, I hope they can enjoy it before they sell off the core of their team again. **************** From uefa.com: Arsenal 4 Shots On Goal 13 Shots Wide 9 Fouls Committed 5 Corners 1 OffSides Ajax 3 Shots On Goal 4 Shots Wide 16 Fouls Committed 5 Corners 1 OffSides
maybe i am confusing the game in highbury with the one in the arena. i do remember reading directly quoted from UEFA's match tracker that Ajax was dominating at that point in the game and basically the whole match.
I certainly do not wish the worst for Ajax. I like to see a team get it done by developing their own players rather than just buying players when they are established. They're the Oakland A's of soccer. I do, however hope that Ibrahimovic gets shut down, since he has a big friggin mouth and seems to have a personal vendetta against Arsenal.
AMEN!!!!!!!! I'll drink to that! Let's hope for Ajax to beat the crap out of ManUre. Vive le AFC! OPArsenal
Dan, as usual, makes the salient point: Ajax should enjoy this success before they have to sell off some of these players. The '95 Ajax team that won it all would STILL be winning Champs League trophies if they could have kept them all. Where will Chivu, Van der Vaart and the others be playing in a year or two? (If there is a God, those two will be at Arsenal). I wish Ajax nothing but the best of luck and certainly hold no grudge against the team or the coach. They came up with a game plan and got the results they needed against us. Kudos to them, boo to Wenger and the Gunners.
Watch it boss, this borders on treason... Vive le AFC! OPArse PS- It's sadly true though, the whole game plan thing...
Ajax Amsterdam 0-0 AC Milan Another great day for 'total football' Still I can console myself with the fact that ManU were humiliated at the Bernabeu.
Before a ball was kicked, I said Valencia would win the Champions League. I'm sticking to that prediction.
Meh, I like Ajax. Lots of talent on that squad. If I had time, I'd probably follow them more closely. (As it is, Arsenal in the fall and winter and the Revs in the spring and summer is more than enough!)
