I gotta admit, as a self employed photographer, Im pretty lucky, I get to watch just about all the games at any time I want....EXCEPT for this Saturday! I have a contract to photograph a Wedding from 1PM to later in the night....during the US game! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My only hope is that the 100+ people there hate soccer and don't talk about it...but thats highly unlikely....I have to make it home without knowning the score...I want to watch the game as if it was LIVE! (I was almost rooting for the US to finish in 2nd so that we would play on Sunday instead). I cannot believe I won't be watching it Live!
I feel your pain. I'm moving on Saturday and I'll be in the middle of a long drive to the new place while the game is on. My only hope is to catch it on the radio on the drive.
Tell Bridezilla there are some things more important than her ****ing photos. I can't believe someone would schedule a wedding on a day the US could be playing a World Cup match. Poor form.
Yeah same. I was happy we got the opponent we did but then i was unhappy it was on saturday and I have to work that day as well. Its some crappy hourly job at target where they make you close the store down at 11:00pm friday and make you come in at 8 am the very next morning..which is what is going to happen. God I hate that peice of shit place...glad i'm quitting soon..but not in time for this game. the good thing is i'm usually over the area that is right next to the break room. hopefully i can still some time to watch the game
I am scheduled for work as well even though I asked off for it. It is a hourly kind of sales job. I have a few sick days yet, but everyone knows that I am a huge soccer fan and have been watching every game. Can an employer really do anything if I call out sick? I mean, how are they gonna know. Just gotta duck my head when the TV crew comes to the bar right? Yeah its obvious but can they ask for a doctors note like it was ********ing high school?
I can't park a moving truck outside a bar. *sigh* And TV won't be hooked up yet at the new place. I'm totally screwed.
Get an intern, quick!! Take the ceremony photos, rush to a bar, your back by the last dance. Have the intern shoot everything in between.
Digital SLR's with built in Internet wi-fi...thats what I need! In 2006 I had a Wedding on the day of US x Italy...but the wedding ended 1 hr into the game so I rushed home and watched it from the start on the DVR....this time Im not that lucky.
i had to work today with my boss all day. just now getting to see the replay on espn3. saturday my only mission is to stay sober enough to see the first half
All week I told people to not tell me the result of the game today. I had training all day so I thought I'd be ok (I even told my training class to not say it out loud if they saw it). I knew I missed one person, so I made sure to have someone promise me he'd tell this person to not tell me the result. Guess who didn't pass along my message? I made it to 4:59, and on my way out I heard him yell, "Hey Rachel! Big win for the US today, huh?" It was all I could do to not throw something... (yes, I'm still quite angry) Since I didn't know any of the other results, or the scores of any of the games today, I still watched it when I got home. And still managed to cry after the goal... Ah well, I wish you better luck than I had!
I don't know when I'm working on Saturday, so I'm anxiously awaiting that phone call. I shouldn't be as nervous since I usually work from 5 to 11 or 5 to midnight, but I have a bad feeling that this will be the one day when I work from noon to 6.
Hmm, that might be an option. I'll have to see if I can get my gf to agree, because it's a tough time to have to stop for two hours.
Really? You thought you would get through the day without hearing about a USA win? wow! The next thing you know you'll bitch about somebody giving a result in a thread without an "R"
My job requires me to interact with people, so I am expecting that if I work during the game I will know what happens. Of course, maybe there is a chance that there will be a TV and I could multitask.
Man, I'm sorry about that. Just do your best to ignore it. I've had to work for all three games, and despite everyone I work directly with knowing that I bought cable and a dvr just for the game, SOMEONE has walked by yelling the score at the end, so they've all been ruined for me - not people I directly work with. I don't mean to be a party pooper. Just be prepared for it to happen. It's easier that way. I ALMOST made it all of today without knowing the score.
It sounds like she did everything she could to avoid hearing the score. It would be frustrating to be so close to heading home when it is finally revealed. Do you really not understand that my friend?
I had a five hour meeting in the middle of the game. I asked my boss to move it and he said "why would i do that". He tried to show me the score on his phone at half time, fortunately I averted my eyes. Believe it or not, I made it through the day and all the way home without knowing the score. Caught the reply. It can happen. My work buds in Mexico almost ruined it for me, but not completely. I'm supposed to be camping with the kids on Saturday. Hmmmm. I think I'll be late.
Exactly. Thanks. If the one person had passed along the message to the other, I would have made it home without knowing the score. When you work in a call center, it's hard to socialize, so it's not unheard of to be able to get away with what I tried to do. It was hard, but I didn't use the internet once during the day yesterday until after I had watched the game
