I have a question that maybe does not have an answer. I would just like to know if there are any programs that the mls or more specific...dc united has for young soccer players who were not fortunate enough to attend college. I'm not too informed so there might be. I feel like there is a lot of talent out there and because they are not able to attend college, this shouldn't keep them from being noticed. Lets be honest, college is great but it does not mean that if you don't go to college that your not a good player. It has nothing to do with a person's ability to play a sport(college). This might be my opinion only and maybe there is programs out there...like i said, i'm not informed. Please let me know. Thank you for reading this long message. Keep in mind, many great players never attended school and they are some of the best currently in the worl. I just think teams are missing out...thats all. Once again thank you and sorry for makin you read so much. THANX

I would think the best route for such a player is to make a name for himself in one of the premier levels of local leagues or in one of DC United-sponsored youth teams. The biggest thing is to get noticed consistently doing great things on the pitch. Easy, huh? ;)

I'd agree with GrillMaster on this. Carlos Llamosa was discovered by Arena playing on a New York club team. Local leagues can be quite competitive (even when they're supposed to be "recreational" ;) ) You might also check out the "Players" board and pose your question there.

And welcome to the boards, GpatoR.

    welcome to the boards.

The simple answer is no, there is no development program for college aged players that is sponsored by DCU. They do, however, have Super-Y league teams for HS students and younger, as Grillmaster said.

DC United will have a reserve team someday... maybe?

btw, aren't all MLS teams supposed to have PDL "reserve" teams in the next few years? I know Chicago and MetroStars have them already. just wondering.

Sometimes MLS teams hold open tryouts, as well.

The Metrostars recently had a tryout for their reserve team, and I think Columbus holds a yearly tryout for their regular squad. (I say regular because apparently they're getting a reserve team).

If you want to play for Chicago, play with Sockers, Sting, or the Milwaukee Rampage.
