... Says David Terrell after breaking his foot on it during the Bears loss to the shitpackers. <Uof I has the same crappy ************ we play on at Crapinal> seems to be a common thread this year... Fire- Plays on so called "safe play" or whatever that crap is called and becomes devastated with injuries during what should be a promising season.. Bears-Plays on so called "safe play" or whatever that crap is called and becomes devastated with injuries during what should be a promising season.. God damn I cant wait till Soldiers Field gets done!
What is this "Soldiers Field" of which you speak? Later, COZ (back from open mike and in a wiseassed mood, apparently)
I was thinking the same thing as both major injuries Monday night sound turf related. If there is one positive, I was a little worried that the Bears might actually like the field and decide "safe play" would be a good thing in Soldier Field, as pro football teams generally like the speed advantages even with an increased risk of injury. I doubt that will be the case now. On a side note, why the hell does U of I have fake grass? The stadium normally hosts 6-7 events a year. Is it that hard to maintain grass for use six times a year?
2002 may be known by Chicago sports fans as "The Year of SafPlay." After a year of health by the Bears, that field is coming to destroy the team much like the Fire were hurt by it. I think all artificial turf (unless you are playing in a dome) is crap, and just a cheap way to save money on groundskeeping.
so we could use it year round we use to throw a bubble over the field so that the football and baseball teams could practice on it during the middle of winter... it was a side bonus in that the field was then used for intramural sports... notably passing football leagues and a 100+ team 6v6 soccer tournament
Re: Re: "I hate this damn TURF!!" You mean "EYE-talian". Damned if I didn't catch myself saying that earlier this week. Like some people say SHEE-ca-go.
I wonder if this one will work: you all know the joke about "what three Chicago streets rhyme with vagina?" Paulina, Regina, and Lunt. Back to the topic: that turf sucks for professional sports, okay?
In every piece of correspondence the Bears sent me regarding the new stadium (and it was quite extensive), I seem to remember them hammering home the fact that it would be a grass field.
There was only one thing moron McCaskey got right during his uneventful tenure as Bears president. He stated over and over that they want an open air stadium with natural grass. Just so you all know, the original name of Solider Field, was Soliders Field. When did it change? Have no clue.
No, the original name of Soldier Field was Municipal Grant Park Stadium. It was then changed to Soldier Field. It was never 'Soldiers Field', or 'Soldier's Field'.
Here It Is - Straight From the Park District http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/custom.soldierField NEVER "Soldiers Field." Sounds like something a Green Bay Packers or Dallas Burn fan might say.
Re: Here It Is - Straight From the Park District Even HRH DaMare Richard II will say "Soldiers" Field a lot.
Re: Re: Here It Is - Straight From the Park District No one accused Da Mare of being an intellectual, however.
Re: Re: Here It Is - Straight From the Park District Since when has Richie EVER been confused with Henry Clay?
