Is Caicedo going to be one of the great players? Generational talent. . . is he? He is going to be one of the most expensive players. Most expensive players. . . 1. Neymar Barcelona to Paris St-Germain (2017) 222m euros (£200m) 2. Kylian Mbappe Monaco to Paris St-Germain (2017) 180m euros (£165.7m) 3. Philippe Coutinho Liverpool to Barcelona (2018) £142m 4. Ousmane Dembele Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona (2017) £135.5m (initial £96.8m) 5. Joao Felix Benfica to Atletico Madrid (2019) 126m euros (£113m) 6. Enzo Fernandez Benfica to Chelsea (2023) 121m euros (£107m) 7. Antoine Griezmann Atletico Madrid to Barcelona (2019) 120m euros (£107m) 8. Declan Rice West Ham to Arsenal (2023) £105m 8. Jack Grealish Aston Villa to Manchester City (2021) £100m 10. Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid to Juventus (2018) 112m euros (£99.2m)
But at least with Enzo, we were buying a player who was voted the best young player at the World Cup Finals - he was a world cup winner also and he does seem to be the real deal. Caicedo is much bigger risk and much more unproven.
Is this Lavia kid better than Adams? I’m not really familiar with him. I swear we’re going to end up with none of them.
Best thing I ever did was stay out of this thread and maybe glance at the news once a day. Summer nearly over I'm just excited for the season. That said, I haven't seen enough Caicedo to make a judgement.
I guess Andrey Santos isn’t going to play if we light another 160mm on the Caicedo/Lavia bonfire. Todd is erratic. His brain is so wired for baseball where you stock young talent on cheap long term initial and second contracts and overhaul your roster frequently. It just doesn’t work that way in football and he is still yet to figure that out.
Romeo Lavia is good player. Belgian lad. Was at Man citeh - never played for them - and went to Southampton. He has played 29 games. He has great potential. Has one cap for the Belgian national team. Adams is more of a known entity. Lavia is potentially better. But like with Caicedo, there is really not a lot of experience and it might be too soon to claim he has 'generational talent'. Say we get both Caicedo and Lavia and play them alongside Enzo. That would be a quarter of billion pounds sterling. A huge gamble. . . It might work. It hasn't really worked like that in football historically. . . .it is a huge gamble.
He’s yet to do player-only trades. He’s certainly tried but everyone wants cash because agents fees can’t be paid directly out of player-for-player transfers. The system runs on agent grift.
It won’t happen they’re asking for a loan. Unless that loan fee is absurd or there’s an obligation to buy it’s not happening.
Stand corrected [Fabrizio Romano] Kepa to Real Madrid, here we go! Loan deal verbally agreed between Real and Chelsea, no obligation/permanent move for Spanish GK ⚪️
why would we agree to a loan? Surely we should try to Get back some of the money we over spent on him? Kasper Schmeichel is a potential replacement apparently. who will be in goal against the scousers?
gets his full wages off the book for a season and if somehow he does not suck too bad, it may raise his value and salability. I'd take Schmeichel over kepa.
So Liverpool probably achieved 2 of their objectives even if they don't sign Caicedo. Firstly he can't play against them tomorrow. Secondly they made us waste another £30M or so. If we are not getting a sizable loan fee for kepa I don't see why we are digging Real out of a hole
If we loan Kepa out, would we need to spend again on another keeper? Would we have turned Madrid's problem into our problem? I can't believe we're still on the Caicedo deal. Get over it and go to plan B already. 115m, jeez. How many more academy-grown players do we need to sell to fund this? The super long term contracts which we are offering to players will come back to bite us. Because the value of these players will need to continue to be depreciated on our P&L in the 6th, 7th, and 8th year. What Todd has done is that he has tied our hands in the transfer market for a long, long time (we would need to sell before we can buy). And there would be no money for a new stadium. Unless we break FFP. I visited a Brighton board yesterday and guess what, they're describing Chelsea as stupid. We funded their upgrades in coaching, management and squad.
Here’s my tinfoil conspiracy theory on why we keep overpaying Brighton so much- Tony Bloom is going to play poker with Roman in a private stakes game at the Casino de Monte-Carlo, lose, and Roman gets half of what we’ve paid Brighton in transfers and releases. Todd sanctioned it in order to sweeten the bid. Some recovery of money spent on Chelsea is better than no recovery. Cant think of why we would’ve paid 25mm for their back up keeper, this for Caicedo, and 65mm for Marc.
yeah I have been thinking money laundering, embezzlement, paying off South American agents, Todd taking money out ala Glaziers while avoiding the negative energy conspiracy theory's as well. Little else makes sense. I pray Caicedo is as good as near everyone but me thinks, but every other deal with Brighton has been utter shite (if Fofana ever can stay heathy I do think he has some game in him but still a silly price) And I do like Sanchez better than Kepa though price also silly.
Wonder what your success rate is comparing expensive buys .. I can only recall the numerous failures Fernández looks class though
Looks like we are throwing all of our eggs into one basket. We are gambling on these kids, in theory because we've tied them all down on long contracts we ought not to need not to spend too much more over the next few seasons. I think the guys looked like they put in plenty of effort yesterday, they undoubtedly have talent too, given time, as long as they don't lose their desire I think we'll be OK. My only worry is that they start to enjoy West London too much and the vast amount of money they have and their position in life means that they take their foot off the accelerator.
