Why do I let this stinkin' game get me so pissed off?

I calm myself by analyzing what happened, and by telling myself that there were perfectly reasonable explanations for the breakdowns. I tell myself that we have a coach with a plan, and we have some good young talented players.

But last night I still felt like crawling under my seat and shooting myself at 0-4.

We'd better improve, and quickly at that, or I'm going to be a certifiable nutjob in another month.

You're depressed for the same reason I am. We got burned by the Gal's second string for the most part. They were missing 4 of their best 5 players (or something like that) and still spanked us like we were naughty schoolgirls in a Mike Segroves fantasy.

The time has come to make a major move on defense. We have to unload 1 or 2 forwards for a stud central defender.

As wonderful as the idea of bringing back Pope or adding Mastroeni sounds, I somehow don't think anyone will be jumping at the chance to get Cerritos, Esky, Q2, Q1, Martins, or Juan Berthy Suarez.

Maybe we need to play with four in the back? But that, even with everyone healthy, leaves us with Stokes as our only defender coming off the bench.

    Sigh.

I've always known in theory why Nelson is such a vital part of the team. Now I know it at a gut level.

Maybe this will help to cheer you up, things could ALWAYS be worse. :D

Phew! Lucky for DC I'm not. That would be a terrible sight. Me running out onto the field with sunglasses on because I can't see in the bright sun from the hangover I have, still slightly drunk, uniform riding up and being stretched into a thong and tube top, scaring little children all the while making wookie noises. YIKES!

Yeah, you could be a fan of a team that has been punked twice in the MLS Cup finals by DC United. ;)

That match just took the cake on what was just a crappy day to begin with. THAT was just craptacular! Hated last night, hated today too, butl like the rest of you, ill be right back at it on saturday, and hopefually well have alot more to cheer for.

At least there was that one lone, but very bright spot, and you all know what that was. Just too bad it wasnt enough to wipe away the ugliness that was lastnights match. :(

when I first read this post this morning, I was very depressed too. I thought maybe as the day passed, I would start feeling better and would be looking forward to Saturday's game.

Then I read that Colorado tied LA last weekend.

    So... still depressed.

    :(

I disagree. We still have Nelsen, we just need him healthy.

Episode from West Wing last week or so has the right perspective on this.

President was quoting the argument between the pessimist and the optimist.

The pessimist was saying, "Ah, things couldn't get any worse."

The optimist naturally contradicted him, saying, "Oh, yes, they sure can."

    :D

Which gives us Nellie and Namoff as solid game-in, game-out contributors. Petke and Prideaux have been inconsistent this year. Stokes, I thought played like someone making his debut. The jury still is out on him.

So we have two, maybe three, solid defenders, soon to be down to one when Nellie leaves for Oceania qualifying. We're one red card away from having a full-on crisis.

It's time to make a move.

ah cheer up, this is how it is.

LA ties to Colorado because Ruiz goes down 23 minutes into the match making LA think "DO we have what it takes?" Making them lose focus.

Colorado ties because Ruiz goes down, and they think " Holy Crap!" "Their lead scorer is down!" Maybe we can take advantage!"

DC loses because they think "Holy crap we beat KC! And LA is missing alot of their starters we got it in the bag!"

LA wins because they think " We need to PROVE that we do not NEED Ruiz, that we are a team not a one many army."

Colorado loses Saturday because they think "Ha! DC lost against LA and we tied them we rock!" and they lose focus.

DC wins saturday because "We are pissed and have the desire to and *fingers crossed* have the focus that Colorado, this saturday, is missing.

So there, cheer up! Win or lose we still booze!

I think that's being a little kind. My 11 year daughter spent every minute after he came on yelling things like "Don't give the ball to Stokes" and "Get Stokes off the field". I think his performance was the worst of any player I've ever seen playing in Black (and yes that includes Nicky on Wed night too). David Stokes needs to be cut loose now.

I think most are depressed just because the reality of our new season is settling in. The performances to date cannot sustain those overhyped preseason fantasies about a new coach & a 14 yr. old carrying DC right back to the top of the table.

Like a Tom Cruise formula movie, this is the "work phase" bit where scenes cut from the practice field to the game to the plane & then back to the practice field with lots of long faces & people staring out the window wistfully...

Still, we get Benny & a couple of others off the injured list & we're back in business, won't be a cake walk tho.
