Greg RothToday I found out that I am officially voted on to SSFC Alliance Membership Council! Thx for those that voted for me. It is truly and honor to serve the fans and the club. : ) http://tinyurl.com/csn8l9 Please let me know how I can be of service to you. I am now throwing my support towards Rachel Hein Molloy. She has all of the right stuff to represent the club and fans in a massive way. I am looking forward to working with her when she gets voted on. Come on Rachel! : ) http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=69390076826
Oh yeah.. What are Rachel's positions on these important issues: SoundWave (location, playing during the game, etc.) Banning plastic horns Expanding seating to 32,500 for all home games Playing USOC matches at Starfire instead of Qwest Standing vs. sitting the whole match And, congrats, Greg.
Can you do something about the seating for ECS? I understand that on the Brougham End side of the stadium, the back part of the sections have been tarped off because the flags hinder the view. Why not, as some have already suggested, group ECS and other supporter groups in a single section so the other sections will have an unhindered view? Can you also bring up the issue of opening up the Nest?
Grego Congratulations. My one and immediate concern, that I supremely wish the council would consider: a referendum on banning theose DAMNABLE plastic horns. If the Sounderts faithful vote to keep them, then I will shut up and accept it. But I cannot help but think that 95%+ of the fans want them banned.
Hello, Thank you for the comments, please send any immediate concerns or issues to me directly at: gregro7@msn.com. I will respect people's privacy and right to express their opinions without the scrutiny of others on BS. Cheers! Greg
Another great candidate for Membership Council: Dave Clark / Sounder At Heart. He just needs a few votes Check it http://sounderatheart.com/ Here is his Platform: http://sounderatheart.com/i-win-you-please/
wtf are you talking about? Those seats are not tarped off because of the flags and potential for obstructed views. They are tarped off for long term business/attendance purposes. Also, the ECS and other supporters groups already have a supporters area area, its called GENERAL ADMISSION!!! They have little signs up as you enter the area that state something along the lines of "You are now entering the Supporters Section, be prepared to stand, chant, wave flags etc."
Anti-smoke is anti-fun Can't vote for anyone that is specifically against smoke bombs but mentions nothing about plastic horns. I do love his commentary though!
As has been mentioned the tarps are not because of the flags. And if rumors are to be believed the FO is looking into opening those sections as well. The ECS is mostly concentrated in 122 but we have spread into the lower reaches of 123 as well. We learned after the first match that the white noise in Qwest makes it impossible for those in the GA section who are not ECS to learn the material. As a result members who know the material are standing further from the core. The FO wants a vibrant supporters culture, for that to happen the ECS (or anyother supporters group) cannot be confined to a single section they must be allowed to spread out a bit as we have done. Our Capos have been really good at keeping about a dozen chants in heavy rotation. It get monotonous after a while, but the GA is picking them up. The Hawks Nest will not open this year as it is a prime advertising space for Xbox. Not sure if it is in negotiations for being opened next year. I believe seating there is about 3000-3500 so that would bring lower bowl capacity to 36k or so. No use in being gung ho for smoke when it is a league wide no-no and a definite stadium no-no at Qwest. Don't get me wrong I would love to see it but it is a battle that cannot be won at this time. The plastic horns suck, I let my son get one at the first match because he insisted, but he has not brought it back since then. Oh and congratulations Gregro. First thing I would like to see is a Members Council page that details who the members are and provides a secure private means of contacting that member. This should also include where said members seats are at. We have this SSFC Alliance Council but it is woefully inadequate.
I don't know if it was my stream, but the crowd did seem more muted last game. Also, I heard a rumor something to do about paper airplanes...may I suggest that looks badass. http://www.zurqui.com/crinfocus/paper/air-fly.html
Thanks for your endorsement Greg, you'll make an excellent representative! In response to some of the questions...I'd like to see a survey go out at the end of the season to all Season Ticket Holders, with items like seating capacity, horn bans, better section preferences for standing vs. sitting, all put to scaled ranking vote. All fans should have a say on how they feel about these issues, and I would work to encourage the Front Office to take action on the will of the fans. Expanding seating: I'd be interested in hearing directly from the fans in a survey...to see if Season Ticket Holder's as a majority wish to see more seats opened up, and if that runs the risk of devaluing next year's season ticket renewals and leaving us with unfilled seats. There is currently demand for single ticket sales and money to be made...but will that be in the best interest of the club and the fans long term? Horns: The kids love them, but they hurt your ears if someone is blowing one close by. They add a buzz to the stadium that isn't the same as cheering...but when the cheering dies down, they keep the noise going. Again, I feel it's an issue that should go to the fans...if the majority are strongly opposed, discontinuing future sales or an outright ban might be called for. Council Representatives: I'd also encourage those on the Council to take steps to make themselves visible and available to the fans, separate from the Front Office who they will be working with. Setting up an Alliance Council website with contact information and news, perhaps armbands for Council Members to wear at games will help raise the visibility of representatives, so they are more available to receive input and feedback from the fans. I believe some things will sort themselves out by next season...in that those who are in the ECS section will have a better understanding of what that entails: flag waivers, singing, chanting, drums, standing (and Sound Wave?). The ECS has a huge impact on the stadium energy, and thus the play on the field, and I believe the ECS would like to see that encouraged. Seat reassignment is available now, and appropriate for anyone who is finding its not for them. Don't be afraid to ask your Ticket Rep for help if you are unhappy with your current seats at games. In the future, better definitions for all sections, regarding standing vs. sitting preferences should be stressed. the ECS has three on the council (technically Greg Roth is also an ECS member) so maybe four. The three ECSers on the council vote in block. But then again this FO has not been very responsive on getting a meeting going. Send them emails inquiring about getting a inaugural meeting going.
