    Pick The Table

Alright, here's a new game for everyone to try out. There's nothing really special for you to do, there's nothing hard about the way it's played - in fact, everything's pretty simple.

Pick the table at the end of the season and you'll win...BRAGGING RIGHTS. That's right! If you list all the teams in the order you believe they'll finish in the regular season, you'll win the most important thing that the BS forums can give you (apart from free gear).

Guessing closes after the 2nd Round of matches from the 2009-2010 Hyundai A-League

Here's a list of all the teams, just in case you miraculously forgot their names or couldn't keep track of the new ones coming in:

    Adelaide United
    Brisbane Roar
    Central Coast Mariners
    Gold Coast United
    Melbourne Victory
    Newcastle Jets
    North Queensland Fury
    Perth Glory
    Sydney FC
    Wellington Phoenix

And here's the standings from last season, just to distract you all:

    1. Melbourne Victory
    2. Adelaide United
    3. Queensland Roar
    4. Central Coast Mariners
    5. Sydney FC
    6. Wellington Phoenix
    7. Perth Glory
    8. Newcastle Jets

    Good luck and good guessing...

The best i can do ATM is groups:

    1. Roar
    2. MVFC
    3. Glory
    4. GCU

    5. SFC
    6. Adelaide
    7. Wellington

    8. NQFC
    9. CCM
    10. Jets

I'd be pretty sure of the bottom 3 - but not sure of the order.

Adelaide and Wellington and maybe SFC (depending how they gel) could be slightly off the pace.

Roar and MVFC both seem to have been able to keep at least most of what they had from last year.

Glory and GCU have been most impressive for bringing in new recruits.

Of course I do reserve the right to change things - if I remember in time:D

    1 - Sydney FC
    2 - Adelaide United
    3 - Perth Glory
    4 - Melbourne Victory
    5 - Brisbane Roar
    6 - Wellington Phoenix
    7 - Gold Coast United
    8 - Newcastle Jets
    9 - North Queensland Fury
    10 - Central Coast Mariners

Honestly, I'm really hesitant about a lot of my placings. I know Perth's going to do well this year, just not sure how well. I'm pretty certain that the Central Coast is going to come dead last, and I'm not a believer on how good North Queensland will be, either. I'm thinking the Phoenix are going to be the surprise package this year, although how they do without Smeltz is going to be another story altogether. I have faith that Sydney's preseason is going to be a precursor to the actual A-League (but then again, who knows?), and I am not quite sure if keeping roughly the same squads as last year is going to help or hinder Melbourne and Adelaide.

CM- Gold Coast are going to get a lot of draws if they're going through this season undefeated and finishing in 7th! :D

Ohhhh yeah. Maybe I should put them in 1st seeing as they've threatened to remain undefeated.

Assuming you were a Victory or Brisbane fan to begin with before the inception of United, are you now following Gold Coast United, Kinnoutou?

Victory, as I was studying in Melbourne but having grown up on the Coast, whenever they got a team I would support them. Same with Titans and GCFC.

    Never liked Brisbane teams ;)

    Re: Pick The Table

Well we couldn't do worse than the numpties at the Sun Herald

MVFC coverage fairly predictable, but no mention of Sukha. They're coming first again because they scored lots of goals last year.

    On SFC:
Keller-Colosimo is already looking like a great partnership and Lavicka and crew know how to generate squad cohesion. Our midfield scored shedloads in pre-Season through Gan, Grant and Danning - the same youngsters hyped just a paragraph ago.

On Roar: Hey, they signed this guy called Henrique and their midfield engine room of McKay and Murdocca is busted via injury, might want to mention that as a factore instead of wanking over Charlie Miller.

    GCU: hype, Culina, fair enough.

    on AUFC:
    * no mention of Shin or their youth signings, Owusu an afterthought
    * wanks about last season's news in Jamieson and Mullen
    * not having much cash right at the moment is apparently 'financial instability'
    Yeah right.

on Jets: 6th, because Branko Culina is a genius and Ljubo is a mastermind and Vignaroli is the 'greatest passer in the league'. Wow.

on Glory: This is where I cracked up
heard of this 'Andy Todd' guy?
they didn't dominate play last year so they won't this year. WTF?
Right, player of the year but they won't make finals.

    CCM: this is a gem
Fury: the usual Fowler blabber and then this
yeah, unfortunately he plays for GCU...

    Wow.

    Re: Pick The Table

Two games in and we've already seen a surprise victory by the Central Coast over the Melbourne Victory and a solid display by Adelaide to outdo Perth Glory.

What will this mean for our picks?

Remember, all picks close after Round 2, so if you haven't made up your mind how it's going to finish, you've got another week and that's it!

Alright, I just went ahead and did it anyway. If you guys don't want it feel free to merge/delete thread as necessary, I won't mind :)

The premise is simple, as always. Each week we'll list the upcoming games for the next round and you the good, faithful followers of the A-League brand, will give your tips on what the outcome will be. The tipping for each round will close an hour before kick-off of the 1st game of the new round.

Everyone is welcome to leave tips, even non-followers of the A-League, but remember that to earn bragging rights, you've gotta be in it every week to maximise your points tally at the end of the season ;)

    3 points per correct guess
1 point if a pick ends as a draw
0 points if you don't guess right

For instance let's take the Central Coast/Melbourne game from Round 1 (Central Coast won 2-0):

I tip Central Coast to win = 3 points to me
I tip Melbourne Victory to win = 0 points to me
I tip the match to be a draw = 0 points to me

If the match had actually finished as a draw, everyone would've received 1 point, unless you called the draw from the very beginning, then you would've gotten 3 points.

Opening for Round 2 begins after the last game of Round 1 :)

Good move, E-C-E. My only hesitation creating that thread was that it was too much like this one, but a merge solves all the problems :)

    Re: Pick The Table

All- right I'm assuming we can still change the original list (up till 2nd round?)

    My final order now:

    1. Roar
    2. GCU

    3. SFC
    4. Glory
    5. MVFC
    6. Adelaide
    7. CCM
    8. NQld

    9. Jets
    10. Wellington

Brisbane and GCU both seemed a large cut above the other teams.

Newcastle and Wellington seemed a long way off the pace.

Perth, SFC and NQld still need time to Gel with new lineups/ coaches, but will get better.

Adelaide and CCM looked solid, but not great.

MVFC were disappointing but still all-right and I'll put it down to early season jitters, although Muscat out for a long period will hurt them.

    As for weekly tipping:-

    CCM - Jets > CCM
    GCU - NQF > GCU
    MVFC - Roar > Roar
    WP - Glory > Glory
    SFC - AU > Draw

    Ok

Sea Bogans v Jest - I smell a goalfest, 3-2 to the home side

Fatarse Clive's XI vs the Cane Tards - the fury will scrap but you'd have to go with Palmer the Hutt's lot here, 2-0

Tards vs Pusssycats - hard to pick. 0-1 to Franks mob? whatever.

Nux vs Past Glory - Home team can't defend, visitors can't attack. 1-1 stalemate.

The Sydney vs Pissants - should be a tight game, but there will be goals. 2-1 to the boys in blue.
