If "FC Dallas" is the new name of our team, it's a pretty ********ing boring name.

    Just my opinion.

Don't be surprised to see and official or semi-official nickname.

oh, come on . . .that name will work so well with our library cooperative chant. Can't you hear it now? "FC!" . . ."DALLAS!" . . . "FC!". . ."DALLAS!"

just kidding. "FCDallas" shows no imagination. Sounds like a small town club team. I fail to see the "exciting new" part of this.

FC Dallas is great. Becasue we have no "nickname", naturally, a nickname will evolve from amongst the fanbase, organically, much they way, Gunners, or Red Devils, etc etc have among English clubs with no nicknames.

And what do you think that nickname will be, Jefe?

    BURN!

    I think it's perfect.

But then I have to go back to my argument and ask....WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS ACCOMPLISH???? NOTHING??? Certainly nothing that a new stadium and a logo/color change couldn't.

    Tex,
I differ. This is part of re-branding. I do not believe that GE is finished. This is the first part of many subsequent steps. I ass-u-me that GE dished out the name step because it would create buzz good or bad. We wanted a color and logo (crest) change. This FC thing will make it happen. We can still keep our tradition w/ The BURN and Inferno. Linking the past to the future. FC Dallas - BURN. I like it.

Again this is all conjecture in my part. If there are no other steps of substance then I will agree w/ you that the FC part does nothing for me. (not that it should. I will attend regardless)

I'm just saying that the name change is unnecessary, and that you can have a succesful rebranding effort (see: Dallas Mavericks) without a name change. Meanwhile a name change CAN and sometimes DOES have negative effects. The one that I am most concerned about is losing the impressions that have built up over the last 9 years, specifically little rec soccer kids that went to one game that their coach took them too and now they are teens and MIGHT be interested again. All those impressions, millions of them, cost a LOT of $$$ to make. All the advertising and marketing, as unsuccesful as it was, did put the Burn name in the subconscious of the DFW market. Now that is all gone......and I think its a mistake. I don't think FC Dallas is a bad name.....I actually think its kind of cool.....shh..don't tell anyone. But the whole deal is unnecessary and, I believe, unproductive.

Seems like if they went that route, it would need to be 'SC', for 'S'occer.

I can handle FC Dallas but l will believe it when I see it.

FC Dallas needs a little more............. A nickname, a moniker, something

    FCD?

I never thought of myself as being a Eurosnob, but realizing by posting this I have a least a little of snobbery in me. However since the Burn would be equally guilty of this tsurris...

You can't call a Dallas a FC. They aren't a club. Club insinuates an entire system center around the senior team with reserves, youth system, etc. And please..F? Even the Fusion had the decency to go SC. Dallas wants to be Eurosnobs. Gah.

I am willing to guess that GE was looking @ euro tradition. I agree & I support every effort to showcase anything American. I like the fact that we call it soccer. The FC will be more appealing to eruos and will offer the olive branch to many traditionalists (other than euros) that resent our insular behavior. The argument could we made that SC could stand for Sporting Club for which we are not. All conjecture.

FC Dallas with a kick ass crest, a little bit traditional, but with a modern touch to it. I'm actually intrigued by this. I guess we can still refer to the team as the Burn....as an unofficial-official nickname. We can certainly still be the Inferno, since FC Dallas doesn't scream for a different SC name....and that's a good thing. But they will most likely change the color scheme, and we will have to oblige. Unless they come up with a good explanation, not Football Club, for the FC part that somehow makes sense, this will be ripped to shreds by the mainstream sports media. And will just bring the "It's not soccer, it's football" argument up everytime the damn name is mentioned. Ughhhh....this won't be fun.

You are assuming that they haven't made an agreement with one of the many, many youth soccer clubs in the area....one of which is actually named FC Dallas.

No such thing as bad publicity. Hell I love pointy ball. I would love to argue (inane) what the correct term. As long as we are talking Soccer.

Exactly. If it is FC Dallas - I am absolutely fine with that. The fans come up with the nickname - based on the logo, the colors or whatever.

    Its perfect. Think about it.

    Yet.

I will bet your lunch money they will be. As Wagner said at the Town Hall meeting, it is no accident Frisco Field is surrounded by youth fields. Dallas Cup is moving to Frisco maybe as soon as next year.

Dallas will have a youth system and as soon as Frisco opens I bet it will be the best in MLS on Day 1.

Good, truthfully this is what I hoped for. It seemed too perfect with the layout of the Frisco complex not to start a club in Dallas especially since a good deal of ticket sales run through these youth clubs.

Are the "Burn" going to start fresh or rename a current youth club?

Who knows...this is all conjecture. If I had to guess I would say they will make some kind of arrangement with an existing youth club....like the aforementioned FC Dallas. But it will be more like an affiliation rather then HSG actually running a club. I don't think HSG wants to take on that kind of operation. And you wouldn't want to alienate members (kids and parents) of competing youth clubs in the area.

The FC title will encourage this random tidbit from local sports fans "they aint playing football" At which time we will all shake our head.

For a soccer team trying to use the word "football" in any terms, might be a bad decision in this market.

Agreed. But then again, the soccer haters are the soccer haters and many of them will never change. They will do their graves mumbling, "Soccer will never make it in this country.......its a kid's game......grrrrr". You can't do anything to please those people.....might as well try to take it to 'em.

This is exactly as it should be. And this is the only name change I've heard so far that can really work for all. Team gets its 'new identity'---- and we can keep on calling it "Burn". I've always hated the way teams here have to have some mascot name, but in other parts of the world that doesn't seem to be the case. I guess some may have them, but they are not always mentioned with the "official" name. Does River Plate have a mascot? AC Milan? I don't know, but if they do, it is not usually mentioned.
FC Dallas can work. It's soccer specific, although that may require alot of explanation for a long time. But when the casual fan hears a reference to FC Dallas, he will not immediately assume it is a new football/baseball/basketball/hockey team in the area.
Speaking of hockey, anyone heard the suggestions for the name of the new WHA hockey team supposed to start playing at Reunion? Talk about duds. They are having a contest to name their team, here are the options:Vision, Americans, Eagles, Demolition, Heroes.
    *****************************
Excuse me, but I had to stop and puke.
Someone made the comment, "Dallas Vision? What will the logo be, a pair of sunglasses?"
That is some pretty lame stuff.

Anyway, I can get behind FC Dallas. Go Burn!
