My two cents... Someone with a lot of money to waste should start a company and name it "Houston 1836". If the name is unavailable in the US, go outside the country and do it. Once you have a company with that name, then you can approach the Dynamo front office, and pay them a lot of money to put "Houston 1836" on the front of their jerseys. That would be sweet, and then I'd be happy. And everyone knows me being happy is ultimately the goal in this decision...
why are you aiming at "orange" colored logos? I would go after a company that could offer us quality discounts in return. I would really want United Airlines and have the sponsor truly help out road trippers with last minute flight discounts for the playoffs.
Oh, yea, like how Continental always would come through for us. But you're right, that would be nice if they would.
St Arnold would be cool but I don't think they would be allowed. Not sure of the exact wording but Newtex mentioned something when Amigo was being considered that having a beer company would not work since MLS is already sponsored by another company. Correct me Newtex.
The rumor was that it was 'Corona', but the league beer sponsor wouldn't allow it. Rumor never confirmed.
Right. There seem to be some restrictions to beer companies doing shirt sponsor deal but it is hard to figure out exactly what the problem is. My personal opinion is that another beer company could be a shirt sponsor but they would be limited in the other types of promotions that they could do with the team. And most companies want as much bang for their buck with the sponsorship. Look at all the different tie-in stuff that Amigo does. This may be changing however. The supposed story on Chivas USA's new shirt sponsor, Extra, is that it is a sort of placeholder for an eventual sponsor of Corona. Grupo Modelo owns the Extra store chain and Corona. Of course, Anheuser-Busch InBev also owns 50% of Grupo Modelo and they are the official beer sponsor of MLS so it all gets very confusing. AB InBev seems to want to use MLS for promoting Bud products and not the other stuff that they own. When it all comes down to it I think a beer shirt sponsor is possible but unlikely. At least for now. If Chivas USA does switch to Corona, other brands make take another look.
I wouldn't mind getting free wings with my ticket stubb. What about Tilman Fertitta slap a Landry's logo on the front/Stadium. He's head of the Houston/GTown Seafood Mafia ..controlling most of all the seafood resturants in the Nation, and he'll more than likely buy the Astros. Great cross city/sport PR.
Well my Dynamo friend that works for Southwest Airlines wants to know how come nobody has mentioned Southwest as a potential sponsor. They got a lot of us out to LA for the Western Conference finals as well as to Seattle for the first round of the play offs (by way of Austin.) They would be a great sponsor, their logo would work ok with the orange, and I think they would work more with fans for discount trips than the bigger airlines. If only they would put first aid kits on their planes for those potential razor blade injuries that are sure to pop up among Dynamo fans.
You are sh1tting me?! If that thief buys the Astros I will become a Cards fan. Concerning the beer sponsor on the jersey, I don't see the conflict. The main reason is that Budweiser does not make beer, just rice based, flavorless alcohol water that you piss out while drinking. St. Arnolds would be awesome! Concerning Southwest, which carries the most passengers per year in the world btw (according to *sigh* wikipedia ), tell your friend if they move their HQ to Houston from Dallas then yes . Either way, LUV (stock ticker noobs) would be a great sponsor.
I havent read through the thread yet, but I loved the at&t logo on the All-Star jerseys. I hope they eventually sponsor somebody.
They are a league sponsor so maybe they prefer that, or they are still angry at having had to sponsor the Dallas Burn for so many years. I think that moving into the new stadium, they'll try to up the price on the jersey and could even go blank for part of next year if they are holding out for a big bump, I guess sort of like Colorado.
Now there's an idea that makes good, common sense. A business most all of us use, or have the choice to use. Colors work. Texas connections. Advertise on TV for Rockets, etc.... ...all reasons why it probably won't happen.
hey not sure where to put this so this thread seems as good as any and it might already be known by you guys in houston but i was on the rochester rhinos site and saw an add for a sporting goods company that uses the never used houston 1836 logo, i guess just cause it didnt work for you the logo couldnt be used somewhere else huh? http://www.valentisports.com/
