BenC makes it sound like everyone's IP and other private information is at risk here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=1610594#post1610594 Is he correct?
I'd like to hear from Huss what that policy actually means. I posted the policy on the thread (link above) and BenC said that's NOT the policy.
I guess the big question on everyone's mind is: Is my IP address being sold to Vikings intent upon wreaking hav-ok with my home like in those credit card commercials?
We do not sell our customers information nor private data. We do not share our customers information nor private data. ip logging is there for emergencies, and the data is not permitted to be shared without anyone outside of the mod/supermod/admin corp except through me and with my authorization. now, if people violate our TOS, or a legit authority contacts us about a problem, the ip is one way of many we use to see who someone might be, where they might be from , and what their other usernames might be. it's a detective tool, we use it to help confirm identity. except under subpoena, i can't think of one other example where we shared the actual ip address with an outside entity.
You've been subpoenaed to give someone's IP address based on political reasons? As opposed to criminal reasons?
While I have no inside scoop on what the subpoena was about, I remember a poster a while back making posts left and right about assassinating the President. He disappeared rather quickly if I recall correctly. Regardless of your political leanings, making comments like that is pretty stupid. Of course, I could be wholly incorrect and the trifecta of Bill O'Reilly, Condoleeza Rice and John Ashcroft could be involved in a secret plot to silence the crafty liberal Dan Loney once and for all. Either theory. Take your pick.
Question: is Onion Bag at all partnered with BigSoccer, or have they been employed as an "Agent" or otherwise used for providing "Promotional Offers" in conjunction with BigSoccer? I am very curious as the e-mail address I used to register with BigSoccer has been given out to only one other soccer-related website (and in general, is not provided to very few companies), yet it is the address that Onion Bag is using to push sales on me -- and without a stated privacy policy or instructions for list removal, I might add.
If that is true, then perhaps you can explain how the Onion Bag obtained my email address from BigSoccer and is using it to send me unsolicited email messages advertising its web site and product line. A representative of Onion Bag just confirmed to me that they did indeed obtain my email address as a result of a prior partnership with BigSoccer. Based on BigSoccer's published privacy policy, either BigSoccer has not followed their own policy or Onion Bag is in violation of BigSoccer policies. Were I a user that took advantage of BigSoccer's boards at no charge, I might not raise such a stink. As a paid subscriber however, this is a great concern as BigSoccer also has financial information about me within their records.
They are emailing you without your permission or ours. You should contact whomever you feel is appropriate.
